Perhaps if you chose a brand and a model and went to the company's website and looked up the Specs, they may well list all the files the set is capable of playing back.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Honestly, most TV's have limited media playing ability and it is often an afterthought in the design. Next year along comes a different format of media file that everyone is now using and it is pretty useless. Get a dedicated media player as an addon to your TV of choice. They play virtually anything and new firmware releases update the latest codecs so they don't fall over in 12 months time unable to play yet another new improved file type.

You answered your own question... Samsung.

    Probably not all models though.

I agree with mandc, your best option is an external media player, then you have no restriction on the brand, model and type of TV you view your files on.

    Hi

If you decide to go down the media player route, I would highly recommend the Mede8er 600x.

Supports just about everything including 3D.
