I think the Vast UEC DSD4121 RV comes with an External 240V/12Volt DC power supply ...... making it easier to change the power supply if needed
Pot luck as I have had one die within weeks, another after 13 months, bought 2 for a neighbour to have one die while I was on line doing the activation (refurbished) yet another is way over 2 plus years old and hasnt missed a beat, switched on 24/7 and channels get changed occasionally.
I believe the new models can come with the later Remote and are ready for PVR.
I dont know why you want a UEC but there are others on the market so its worth checking.
Remember what ever is on the market MUST be VAST approved before it can be sold otherwise it will not work so that at least says it be of reasonably quality for the manufacturer to have it VAST approved.
Lastly, read or check sales regarding repairs as some sellers (online at least) require the buyer to deal directly with the manufacturer.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I must be the lucky one have had 3 4121 boxes and all still work without problems, now have 3 satking boxes and one of them failed
Took it back to sciteq and got it replaced no problems, I know other installers in the area are using the satkings as they tend to work quite well without many issues
I have got a few UEC Vast STB & none have failed yet .......

Satking gets my vote.
Have two units operating for just over two years now....no problems (touch wood).
External 12V supply means they can be operated on battery, or any inexpensive regulated 12V/2A powerpak.
Also agree the UI is sweet - intuitive, good graphics and colour scheme.
For over 2 years UEC were the only stb available for VAST so there must be hundreds if not several thousand in use all around Australia and UEC are still in business so their failure rate cant have been too bad, only to the users who had to get it fixed.

Hi all, just browsing old threads, anyone got a replacement P/S board for one of these? My STB has no lights, perhaps a deal for a good one can be done. Cheers,
As Antennaman mentioned R3 and R4 on the power board is a common failure with these boxes. I have replaced quite a few for customers now.
The original resistors look like ¼watt carbon types. I always replace them with ½watt metal film types and have not yet had a failure reported on a repaired board.
As the cost of these resistors is only a few cents I recommend that even though the original resistors are well within their nominal power rating.
The DSD4121 has the power supply internal. The later model DSD4121RV has an external 12 volt power pack. If the 12V pack fails (haven't come across one yet) it can be replaced with any 12V regulated power pack with the correct size plug (and they are cheap).

Just wondering how should a dead power supply out of a UEC DSD4121 be disposed of saftely ?
Are they safe to be stored in a cardboard box in your cupboard ? are they a fire risk ..... etc ....

What make/model of VAST decoder do you have? (It may be economical to repair it).
Unfortunately, if you live in an area where you have to rely on VAST, then you have little choice.
VAST decoders from all manufacturers are similarly (over) priced.
Personally, I've found the Satking models to be more reliable, compared to UEC.
My DSD-4121 just had exactly the same problem as the OP. It is 7 years old and has the PJ321R rev 0 power supply. I took the power supply out and found that C10 had bulged and the diode that feeds it had obviously overheated. The diode is marked SHK75-11. It is manufactured by Samsung but I am unable to source it. Does anyone know of an equivalent I can use instead?
