Coops, probably a stupid question mate, but you have turned the volume on the Dream all the way up haven't you, using the remote control?
I've never had any low volume problems with any of the images I've tested.
Dave
For starters I'm not sure if this should be in electronics or here, so mods move it if required.
Now my problem, the audio out on my DM500 is absolutely terrible. I have to drive my amp at ridiculous levels when watching TV, when I swap inputs I generally forget to turn down the volume and end up damaging my ear drums. Is there a simple solution? Maybe build a preamp kit from Jaycar?
Has anyone done this or are you just putting up with the low audio?
Any advise is much appreciated,
Coops

Yeah, volume is all the way up. So are you saying it may be an image thing? I just thought it is because it's a cheap box.
It's possible, what image are you using?
I'm using the latest Nabilosat image
I've never had much to do with the Nabilo images mate, maybe some on else here can help you with that one.
From memory if the Nabilo image is simliar to Pli ( you could adjust your volume setting to halfway ) then using the dreambox menu scroll down to shutdown . When the box is restart it should remember the setting and stay at half setting .
Something is wrong, by 1/2 way on the dream it is not even audible.
Have a look at the circuit diagram for the dream, trace back from the audio out connectors to the opamp in the output stage. You will neeed to cut two tracks and add two resistors to convert the unity gain opamp in the final stage to say...a gain of 2.
the dm500s put out about 250mV instead of 500.
it's a design problem.
Hey Coops,
It's not the Nabilo image. I have a box with Gemini on it and at 1/2 I can barely hear a thing.

Cheers fella's.
Are these schematics accurate?
It's all I can find, the mod is probably above my skill set anyway.
OK, not sure what setting the volume to half has to do with anything, the problem was with too low a volume level?
I swap and change decoders here all the time, and I have never noticed a large difference between the audio output of my Dream, and any of the other decoders I own, perhaps it's because mine is a clone?
Dave
I know this is an old topic, however I have found a very easy fix. I just run the audio into the phono input on my amp. Sounds great now. This might help some others with the same problem.
