Default PC wont recognise an extra 512Mb RAM

    Hi all,
Im just after some advice as to what may be the problem with the RAM I’ve installed on my computer. I put in 3 sticks of 512Mb RAM and it when I go to control panel -> system, it says that there is only 1gb of RAM.

Its Pentium 4 processor with windows XP Pro and I have SP2 installed. It’s a 32 bit O/S.

Does anybody know how I can get the extra 512 to show up. I’ve tried all the sticks in another PC and it recognises that the 1.5gb RAM is there but I don’t know why it wont show in this PC.

    Regards
    Slick1

or a slight incorrect insertion... seen this plenty of times, pull it out and re-insert, failing that as mention cactus slot...

try cycling the ram in various slots too
we know the ram is good as it works in another machine

    Thanks for your reply.

I'll try swapping it around and see how it goes.
