Default LG TV just went Wacko

    32LG30D about 6-7 years old
we were watching TV & it just started Auto Tuning all by itself then it went black & switched itself off.
I turned it on again & went into set-up & all the channels in the tune list had SYD after them.
This is weird considering I live in Bris.

So I Auto tuned again & it picked up all of the local Bris channels again & it worked as normal.
Next day I turned on the Box & it displayed No signal on the screen, then after about 5 minutes it finally finds a signal & works as normal.
This happens every time I turn it on & there is an audio sync problem now too.
I have checked the cables plugs & antenna & they are all OK.

My mate says that he had one of these LG TV's & that he had a similar problem & it turned out that it had downgraded itself to the basic original firmware.
He said it cost him $300 bucks to get new firmware.
Does this sound right that it could do this all by itself.

Also is $300 bucks a bit much to pay for a firmware upgrade? Maybe not because my local LG Service center wants $90 just to give me a quote.

I used to do firmware upgrades for LG years ago.

As a general response, its 6-7 years old, toss it in the bin!
You can buy a brand new Brand Name 40" 1080p Smart TV for $800

That makes your LG worth $50 tops

If you do some searching on here, there is the firmware and loader program somewhere.
You will need a Windows PC with a serial port and serial null cable.
The loader program and firmware to match your TV
You can get into the service menu by holding menu on the remote at the same time as holding menu on the TV
You need to change buad rate
You can also see what firmware is installed in this menu

    OK
Thanks very much oceanboy I will have a look for the loader program & firmware & give it a go.
The wifey wants to use it in the kids games room for the PS3 & Xbox, otherwise I would trash it.

To be taken away you mean as theres no value in TV's older than 5 years now.
ALDI just had one on sale for $899 that was 50 plus inch and had 'SMART' capability.
I bought the previous model last year for the same price without the 'SMART' capability.

This really needs to be relocated to another section such as Electronics as this one was intended to cover the transmissions, introduction of channels and coverage of Digital TV, not problems with the Television set it self.

Geez gordon... thats a bit hard a new poster/member.
I've often found it ambiguous sometimes when it comes to posting in the correct area, either way, its hardly in the wrong area

Oceanboy, Thats not my intention at all but to gain the most help for a problem like this is in the Fix,Repair,Suggest section which is the Electronics one which is why I suggested moving it there to get the best possible number of members to read and reply to.
When I first saw the 'header' I wasnt thinking of a soft/firmware problem within the TV but from an outside source.
Picking the right place for help with my myriad of stupidities has taken some thought at times and I certainly would be pleased if a posting was moved to a more appropriate section for viewing by all.

Well then, report the OP and get mod's to close or delete this thread because the OP is now receiving the help he needs in the Electronics forum....

Sorry Mate I didn't realize when I first posted this request that I shouldn't have done it in here.
    But I'm learning fast..
There's three ways of doing things:
the right way, the wrong way
    and the MaxxPower way
Which is the same as the wrong way only quicker
