It sounds as if your new Humax receiver is faulty.

    Ask for a new one!

he already did that in post #151.

Interesting thing; the first box worked alright at the shop. Just not at his place, something fishy going on.
    Cheers, Tiny

Tristen, You missed that this is the second new unit, both of which worked on the bench at the shop but had the same symptoms in my house...

If it does, unplug completely the satellite F connector on the rear of the box, & see if it still happens.

Yup, tried both of those and the volume bar stays permanently on.

Have spoken to Jay of Humax support and he says, given we seem to have covered all the other bases, the problem probably comes from incompatibility with the TV (GVA G50HDPL1). I don't have another TV to confirm the theory and anyway am not going to junk the TV, so will have to return the Humax and go with the SatKing alternative. Bugger!

I note you have mentioned covering the front of the unit with a piece of card to block the IR sensor, have you tried moving the receiver away from the TV, eg on the floor to the side of the TV, & covered the front of the receiver completely with several layers of eg. a towel, to make sure the sensor is completely blocked, and seeing if it still happens?

Oh well, I finally gave up on the Humax experiment and took a SatKing unit from the shop instead. Worked perfectly straight out of the box. Now I have to figure out what sort of external disk drive I need inorder to record (I wonder why they didn't just build a hard drive into the box?)

    I have a Satking also.

Choose any 1 TB HDD BUT you must format it in Fat 32. I made a note about that in this thread.

Default New humax firmware on the way

Just had a call from Jay at Humax to tell me they have finalised a firmware upgrade and will be presenting it for approval to Opus. It should be released next month.

I'm told technicians from Korea will be here to make sure all goes well.

There have been quite a few niggles & irritations reported to them and I'm told they are ALL fixed. Yes, about time, but I guess no worse than most PVRs who all seem to go through a gestation period when customers initially effectively only have beta firmware but are finally delivered what they thought they were buying in the first place.

So maybe the Humax will end up the best of the VAST bunch. The remaining pity is that OPTUS refuse to allow the skip function but of course that applies to all VAST PVRs.

I do not doubt that each manufacturer will experience difficulty in any release like this.

It is pleasing though, to see that both Humax and UEC have been active in this area, and have worked to rectify those faults and bugs submitted and reported on in this forum, as well as any other personal calls customers have given them.

    Well done both companies.

After having had this unit for a few months now I'm quite happy with it. The only issue I run into now that hasn't been mentioned is to do with subtitles. If I pause a live program and then resume, the subtitles will be out of whack, timing wise. Work around is to skip forward/backward any amount at all then press play.

Are they using Teletext subtitles on VAST or DVb Subtitles?

    Hi Guys.

Have been having issues with my Humax when using it to record.
For Example, Ive found that when recording MKR everynight off 7 - Watching it live, the Audio/Video is fine without any digital breakup.
But afterwards when going back and watching the recorded version, the Audio/Video continuously breaks up.

'Vastsatuser' mentioned the same issue a few posts back.

Now - Due to my location - Over in NZ, my signal levels are lower than what would be received in Oz, but are stable.

Viewing the Tuner Status via the Setup menu, i have noticed is there is a significant difference between the two Tuners signal levels.
Tuner One typically reports 75% Signal Strength, while Tuner Two reports 57%.
My picking is the internal Splitting of Signal between the Two tuners is causing this difference in level, which is possibly causing the Glitching during recording.

i'm hoping that possibly this issue maybe addressed during the next Firmware upgrade.

Not yet and it does seem to be slower than expected.

I emailed last week asking but got no reply. I'm guessing they are not releasing it until they are sure EVERY problem has been fixed. As there are quite a few it is taking longer than expected.

I purchased another one last week for the very last TV in this house. They are very reasonably priced now - a fraction of what was paid for the first one here - the price of early adoption.

    Default Subtitles not synchronized

Just noticed your comment about this. It is not a fault of VAST or the Humax and occurs with me with an UltraPlus recording ABC/SBS on Optus D1. Same "fix" you describe.

I am using subtitles more & more as my hearing deteriorates but find them often just a bit out of synch, even with FTA aerial reception. Quite irritating.

Another thing that would be nice - To be able to disable the HDMI CEC handshake Option on the Humax.
I find it causes havoc with my Samsung Series 9 Panel and Vu+ Duo and Blu ray player which all use the standard, but have the option of disabling it.
I find that Vu+Duo Brings up VU+DUO on the Samsung, but the Humax totally friggs with it.
Selecting Vu+Duo - The Samsung switches to Humax.. The same goes when selecting Blu Ray...

If I could separately switch off the handshake on the Humax, this would eliminate the problem..

hi - loving the humax 1003s as it means we have TV, but:

    1. the remote has silly clicky buttons - can i pull it apart and maybe modify these to stop them being 'clicky'?

    2. watching recorded shows: if we FF the ads, then press play, the play point moves 1-2 mins past the last image we saw.

say i was FF ads and the time bar is at 22 when i hit play, it skips to 23 or 24mins?

does this happen to anyone else?

is it anything to do with the HDD? i installed a WD Blue 500GB drive - WD5000BPVT

i also have a Seagate Momentus XT SSHD (i.e. hybrid SSD HDD) sitting idle - anyone used these in the 1003s?

    3. it kinda sucks that when you go to guide it stops playing the TV show - can we change this some how?

    4. how can i check i am on latest firmware?
