Default Arcade Machine - Thinking about buying one..

I am seriously considering buying one of these:

Does anyone have any positive/negative feedback about these units?

I think it'd look real nice in my games area. And considering it's got a 1000 games on it I'm sure it'll have lots of replay value.

Was is a Jamma board though? I just figured it was a PC with Mame installed inside the a unit someone has built, however I could be wrong.

    Cheers

    They are cool
    It's a Windy cabinet
It will have a dedicated PC board with a hdd in there

Try Highway games (google) & try for a better price..... Point it out to them
    They have them too

Thanks. I sent them an email, hopefully they'll reply.

If anyone else knows of any other companies that sell arcade machines, please post the links

    Thanks

    You can buy cheaper...

depends on how you like to get into the hobby....

    Yes it's a hobby.

The Blue lowboy in the photo cost me $40 as a woodgrain carcass. It now has a 21" CRT running mame. The yellow cabinet is a 26" LAI JAMMA cabinet with a 48in1 board running all the old favourites. Cost was $600 fully working with a Raiden board in it. The 48in1 can be picked up for just over $100 now..

I am thinking seriously about getting one of these:

Does anyone have any experience with these cocktail cabinets. I have most of the mame stuff on PC and also my xbox, but there's nothing like the old cocktail cabinet nostalgia.

If anyone has any tips or info where you can guy the really nice cocktail cabinets and make your own with a jamma board, it's be appreciated.

Guys probably a good idea to head over to Aussie Arcade before you make the plunge if you have no experience with arcade machines.

My Personal opinion having been in the industry for 24 years is that arcade is one thing , mame is a totally separate area.
Basically MAME is a desktop computer that you stand up to play , 1000 in 1 boards are dedicated PC's with built in MAME frontends .

If you really want MAME you can chose to have a home PC with MAME software and put it in an arcade type cab , what you have is an arcade shell with a computer ( as in these eBay links ), not an authentic arcade machine if that is what you hoping for. ( a bit like thinking you are buying a genuine Phase 3 GT-HO and finding out it has a Honda motor in it ).
Just leaves a bad taste for people that have always wanted a genuine arcade machine.

True arcade video games , are generally wired with JAMMA wiring harness , arcade power supply and CGA or CGA / EGA monitors ( nothing like PC monitors ) Most arcade games operate in 15K ( CGA ) 60hz mode .
They are normally setup to suit a specific game that can be changed because Jamma is the accepted wiring standard for most later games boards.

    Hi Joey,
I have a PC setup with Mame. But the items listed on Ebay have the 1000 in 1 jamma games. Are they true arcade as you state?

1000 in 1 , 450 in 1 etc are all PC's running a MAME front end so no they are not authentic arcade game boards.
They just use a compact Mother board, CPU and Hard drive and are packaged to plug into a Jamma harness , they still need a regular PC power supply to run them.
What you have at home already is the same , except these have an addon board similar to a Jpac in it's working that interfaces PC to Arcade wiring.

Should add , that if you were to purchase a Jpac you could use your own pc and achieve the same thing.
