Hell you could use a hotair gun from bunnings if you really wanted to in the removal and replacement of the chip, but as this doesnt apply the "correct constant and controlled" temperature to all of the bga chip at the same time, you run a very high risk of dry joints or the original fault re-occurring.
I am just keen to hear what process you are using to perform the job. You say that your work is reliable, im not arguing with you, im trying to find out why your fixes are reliable when others are not.
I have never seen the kits your referring to on ebay, but i dont go looking on ebay very often.
