Default DSE XH8269 drive won't start

Anyone used one of these cards before? It's a PCI card that has two SATA ports, for motherboards that don't have onboard SATA.

I've installed it and plugged up my main drive - but when I boot the PC, the drive won't start up. [Drive is a WD 250Gb.]
If I then unplug the SATA cable, it starts up.

I have a second drive [WD 300Gb] - it starts up no probs at all.

No jumpers on the SATA card at all.
