    Great Result,

Just wondering, who would fit the bill, The dealership, or Mitsubishi.

that's the outcome I would expect. It will be at the cost of the dealership and they would most likely claim it on insurance.
They are an interference designed engine so a new engine was going to be inevitable. Sceptical about the pulley disintergrating but when you're getting a new engine replacement it's a moot point.
Those pulley and the tensioner don't cost that much in the grand scheme so worth changing anyway with the timing belt.

    About $650 trade (I think) for the 2 belts/tensioners and idlers(there are 2 idlers)

I also do the alternator and air con belts/tensioners/idlers at the same time, so it does add up......

About 2 - 3 hours labour to fit.

Default Timing Belt - Mitsubishi Triton

Yeah, the head guy said he could send it to the reco guys but the parts list and labour would exceed the cost of a new engine, they were really good and wanted to know if there was anything they could have done any better in the circumstances, my only real gripe was the response from the sales guy on Saturday morning, which was "we'll get someone to call you on Monday morning"
They should have a contact for the "just in case"
My failure occurred late Friday evening, and I work shift work ............

About 1/3 of that for the dealer....the other 2/3 is profit.

Fantastic outcome mate, ay least you wernt fobbed off, makes me wonder if the mechanic that done the timing belt had left a socket or ring spanner floating about under the cover, easily done if you get disctracted on the job

we have a few of those Tritons at work and they are very reliable , so im thinking the dealer must have done something wrong. they are always in a damn hurry so wouldnt surprise me if something was overlooked. or as Godz says , they entrust critical jobs to some low paid monkey
