Says it is OK
Hi Guys,
As my Title states after austech users help, I have decided to buy a OpenBox S10 for my parents to view FTA satellite TV.
I purchased online thru Ebay after sending out 6 emails to Ebay sellers and receiving one that seems genuine.
I asked on numerous times if the box is a clone and he reassures me that it is a original OpenBox.
He has sent me the following picture showing me what chip Id it has. I know online that it is a original chip Id. I was
hoping any advice can tell me if the menu is correct and the details seem correct.
Firmware states 10/10/11 and chip Id 0D7E
P.S
I emailed 6 Ebay Sellers including 1 Aussie Seller based in Sydney. 4 got back telling me they were clones. 1 Genuine of
which I purchased. The one that did not reply, was the Aussie Seller. I tried 3 emails but he did not reply. Funny he was
a few dollars more, and I was willing to purchase thru him.
Anyway can anyone tell me if it is a clone or not.
Thanks
Harry

Thanks marty 17,
I feel it is ok, but I have seen online pictures, where the above pic states CHIP ID, other pics state CCID and have 4 numbers : and the chip Id
eg) 0192:OD7E
Just trying to reassure myself, before I receive it, because if it is a clone, I will open a Paypal dispute.
Thank
Harry

why does it matter if its a clone ? the firmware is upgradeable either way
Thanks carjackma for the reply,
My understanding online, is that if you upgrade with a official OpenBox firmware dated 8/8/11 and newer it will come
up as saying this is a clone box and brick your box after 10 reboots.
This can be circumvented by using clone friendly firmware, but I prefer to use a Original box if I can.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Because I am only going by what I read online.
Thanks
Harry

nope, coz after a few days I stopped checking for a reply.
I just had the Strong rep drop in the other day with pricing so might go in that direction.
I don't like to make recommendations to customers unless I have tried it first and I may buy an openbox from ebay to try but I would be buying direct from the factory if I was selling to customers.
