Default Help for daughter on Lizzy dialup

    Hi all,

    I am after some help.

My daughter joined Lizzy dialup ( can't get broadband..on a country farm) and she has been trying to connect for a week, but can't. Lizzy want to charge her $10 for each help call.

She has been thru the vista connect wizzard with me on the phone a dozen times. It will not connect.

I got her details and ran them thru my XP pro, it will not connect.

For her to get them to help, she has to pay...they are saying they need to rejig her dialup modem....can anyone give me some tips/ tuition of what to try??

    Thanks

She has only paid $9 but that's not the pont..

On her one, she can't hear a dial tone, although a phone hooked in the same outlet is ok talking to me.
On mine, I get to the handshake etc, then get a error 678...the remote computer did not respond

    Guy's....

I just gotta let you know I give a lot of respect to Hoe.....he offered me up a full working set of his own dialup details to work out whether it was a Lizzy problem, or a set up problem. THANKS HOE

I did not have to use Hoe's numbers, as this time that I again tried Lizzy, I was able to connect?? Doesn't this sort of seem sus after they just told her to pay more?? Why would it not work for me for all this time, and now suddenly work?

So, now I have got her details, via xp, going in my lappy, I now need to get her going ,by her vista pc. This is not easy when I am in Coffs Hbr, and she is in Young. The other thing, as daughters do, she has now got totally peeved off, and gone out, so I have to reconvene via phone with her tomorrow I suppose.Grrrrr

Guys....I shall report back...thanks so far...this is all weird.

Try dialing the isp number from the regular phone to see if it answers.

Is it an internal modem? If so have a look in the device manager for the modem and in it's properties, turn up the speaker volume and check wait for dial tone before dialing. Also there is a log available for viewing in the diagnostics tab, it opens a txt file in the Windows directory called modem_log_name of the modem.txt. This is for Xp, but it would be similar for vista.

Hopefully then she can listen to hear what's happening... should hear first dial tone, then number dialing tones, then a "shhhhh" sound maybe with some "beeps" that will probably change in volume and sound as it negotiates.

Have a look here for Vista, it advises "If you dial from the 'Manage Network Connections' window instead of directly from the 'Connect To' screen, Dial-up errors are displayed."

and that error message 678 means "There is no answer."

    see

    ss

That looked pretty good, I have saved it to my desktop to run through on the phone with her.

It makes things clearer, as she has said she can hear no dial tones, and it did say there were no errors....so that link confirms the vista "hole" in diagnostc problems..

    again...thanks!

It all sounds a bit shonky here's the blurb,,

Then I read this, no talk of over-inflatted ''help'' charges.

    Unlimited hours and download.
    Only $8.90/month, pay no more.
    Local call Australia wide.
6 hour sessions - no idle disconnect.
    30 day money back guarantee.
Self service - website help and automated phone help.

Tell-um where to shove it, and get a TPG connection $1.10 an hour , no contracts.
Wireless would also be an option, you would think.

Lizzy is run by amateurs now.

It has been bought out and is no longer any good.

I have moved all my customers away from them.

    Default Lizzy CEO

    Hello all,

I'm Michael Bethune the CEO of Lizzy.
One of my tech guys drew my attention to this thread.

I think it's great the way everyone here pitches in to help each other, good on you.

I'd like to clarify a couple of things.

Lizzy doesn't charge $10 per call for help.

We have an $8.90 per month unlimited usage dial-up product.
It is so cheap because it's intended for folks who can get that kind of thing going without help desk support and hence it can be priced cheaply.
For the folks who sign up and can't get it going with the help of the phone robot or the web site we do offer a life boat of $10 for a fortnight's help desk support.

This is kind of like a discount airline approach of paying only for things you need when you need them rather than having to pay more all the time for the stuff you don't need.

We don't explain the $10 option on our website because the product is intended for those who are reasonably confident with computers and if you are more in need of ongoing support we do have premium all inclusive options available.

So ... I'm really sorry that our help desk didn't explain this properly to "viewer's" daughter and I have asked them to be more explicit in future.

One other thing, we haven't changed management. No we haven't been bought out, in spite of getting offers all the time for this great company.
I was the proprietor in 1994 and I'm still the proprietor today.

Also, as to someone claiming, they've moved all their customers away.
We don't have a reseller or wholesale program (except for web hosting).
So how can they have customers of theirs with Lizzy? Hopefully they weren't charging people more for Lizzy than those folks would pay by dealing directly with Lizzy.
    I don't understand.

Also, as for one of our competitor's who without a contract charges $1.10 per HOUR!!
Wow, would anyone really pay that when you can pay $8.90 per month, or less with Lizzy and that's without a contract too.

Why would you go with another competitor that charges $12.50,
when we charge only $8.90 with a local call number Australia wide also.
Plus we offer 20 email boxes instead of their 10 AND we throw in 5 free SMS per month to Australian mobiles for FREE.
You really must try our web to sms from our front page, it's so much easier for belting out messages than doing thumbs on a phone keyboard.

And might I add when anyone claims the provider who charges $12.50 per month gets no drop outs or connection issues,
I'd like to mention that these days they're using the same modem boxes, and I don't mean the same type of boxes,
I mean the exact same boxes out there in 66 locations across Australia so I don't know how it can be credible for anyone to say that that provider
offers a more reliable service than we do.

Our $8.90 dial-up is good and cheap and it can be even cheaper with our Mates Rates program.
(Broadband also gets cheaper and cheaper with our Mates Rates program).
For those folks like "viewer" who are unable to get broadband, we recommend our Turbocharger dial-up accelerator which can really speed things up.

And if your still not convinced, try to think of another provider whose CEO would go to all the trouble to come here and explain all this.

So Viewer and daughter, Welcome to Lizzy you've made a good choice.

Do I sound passionate about us being the finest provider?
    You betcha!!

    Regards

    Michael Bethune
    CEO
    Lizzy
