Is it a slim or fat one????
hi guys i have a ps2 that was knocked and now it wont read any discs. It boots up np but when you put in any discs it does not recognize them. It was working perfectly until being knocked. Does this sound like the laser just needs to be realigned or are they just replaced.
Who do you recommend in Brisbane to do this kind of job but wont rip you off.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
ps it is modded as well.

Is it a slim or fat one????
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
sorry yes it is a slim.
When you open the lid for the disc you will see a safety switch in the top left hand corner, for the lid
stick a disc in and get something(a match stick) to activate the switch and see if the disc stars to spin up, I have seen a lot of the slims with warped lids
good luck

the discs are spinning but nothing happens.
Well do the same thing but with out the disc in place and you should see a
very bright red laser light DON'T LOOK AT IT JUST SEE IF THE LASER is working
and all so see if the laser is moving up and down the tracks

i couldnt get it to run like i think you are suggesting it should ie lid open and laser moving.
But i managed to keep the lid partially open and i could see the laser moving and without a disc it would move to the middle and light up for s brief sec and then move back. With the disc in you can hear the laser move into the middle and try to read the disc but it never really spins to full speed and you hear a clicking sound and then stops.
Could that clicking nose be gears slipping when the laser is moving up and down the tracks

no i dont think so it definatley sounds like the disc when it is slowing down in speed. as i listen to it more and more it sounds more like a stutter during spin and then as it stops spinning it give about 2 clicking sounds.
Did you have the disc in it when you dropped it ???
It might have shifted you spindle platter (The black thing you clip the game into) down the shaft a bit
