Default Panasonic 6.2KW Split System Air Conditioner Problem

We have a Panasonic 6.2KW Split System Air Conditioner in our main living area that has recently decided to stop working.

The unit is tripping the circuit breaker after about 5 minutes of being turned on. Going through my receipts the unit is over 15 years old and as such I am reluctant to get a refrigeration mechanic in to get in to fix it. The unit was having problems delivering good cold or hot air when it was working and the area it needs to cover I am sure is now too much for the unit (we had a renovation done years ago that opened up our living area)

The Panasonic model number is CU-2473KR and I believe it is before the more efficient "inverter" technology that is promoted alot

Would others here have any recommendations or feedback on what to do in this situation?

If I should be looking for a replacement unit what manufacturer or models are good units to go for?

would it be worth spending $$$ on a service call , for the tech to say its a bad compressor ? i just had a Daikin inverter 6.0kw installed for $2200 , after some shopping around. for that price it was a back to back install - no more than 3M between units , and power was nearby.

you hear good and bad about every brand so i'd go for one of the better known units with longer warranty.

Exactly what I am thinking - after 15 years of service it should be simply written off.

    Thanks for the reply

Does anyone know of any recommended or reliable Air conditioning specialists in the South East Melbourne suburbs I can make contact with to get supply and install quotes from?

We have one that has died also.
I called Panasonic on 132-600 who told me to ring Hirotec on 1300-654-664 who told me that Panasonic do not manufacture spare parts after 7 years.
It highly likely that you will pay hundreds of dollars ($210.00 first hour then $110.00 every hour or part thereof) to find out that it must be scrapped anyway due to non-availablility of parts.
It seems obscenely wasteful but the only sensible course of action is to scrap it & install a new unit.
I am currently researching which manufacturer has the best parts availability before I spend another penny.

    Regards,
    Chris

15 years is a pretty good run. Go for a daikin , I had one fitted in perth.
    Very happy with it.

Some of the new samsungs etc. have wifi so you can control them from your iPhone etc. from anywhere over the net.

Replace it with a Daikin inverter unit, maybe around 8kw if you have a slightly bigger area than what you had.

Try , I have used them a couple of times for heating and cooling and no complaints.

I am thinking of having a ductless split system AC installed in my home.
I am looking for advice, comments, or recommendations on where to buy one.
If you have one in your home or have experience with one, please give me your input.
