    G'Day Cobbers,
I remember that in 1953 that petrol was 1/10 pence a gallon in Sydney and over 5/- a gallon in Alice Springs.
Some time after that a subsidy scheme was introduced so that prices would never differ by more that twopence a gallon.
Many years down the track, and thanks to GST and introduction and repeal of various subsidies, not to mention being screwed by the oil companies, we seem to be a lot worse off.
Who said that is "Pork Barreling" on a grand scale?
I've done a bit of a search, and although there are some subsidies available, certainly not to the extent that they were in those golden years.

I'm glad I filled up yesterday at the local servo before he put his price up this morning. I got diesel for 195.9. I drove past today and it he put it up to 197.9 I would of paid an extra $2.20 on top of the $215 to fill up....pfft.

Well I hope those arab billionaires enjoy it while it lasts - because it's all going to come to an abrupt end for them in the not too distant future, and places like Dubai will turn back into deserts, and they will once again be the 3rd world country they are always going to be.
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

My father use to tell me stories of in the late 50's early 60's getting together with the boys, everyone chipping in some spare change (coins), filling the tank of the old v8 and cruzzing for chicks till empty....

In the early to mid 80's it was $15 to $20 to fill.

    This is ridiculous now......

Back in 2012 we used to throw a solar panel on the Prius and drive around all day cruising for chicks. When the sun went down we had to push the car to the nearest power point and join lots of extension leads together so we could get home 200 metres at a time.

Default This was the fuel price "Exploitation"award winner LPG + Unleaded same price.

Whilst travelling around the block in 2005 at Normanton home of Chris the 8metre odd crocodile. LPG and unleaded were the same price at the only servo in town that had LPG.
We were lucky as the old F100 had dual fuel which allowed us to move on further to a town with cheaper LPG but those unfortunate enough to be on LPG only had no choice due to the geographic location and the range of there LPG tanks.
This was the greatest case of exploitation that we have experienced on our trip.
