Yes
A friend ask me to find this out, and as I told him I don't know, but I would ask the 'sperts at Austech..
long story short, friend wishes to receive Russian tv for his wife (i think as a surprize for her). I have no idea what is on offer there, nor does he, he mentioned that he new someone that to the best of his knowledge was streaming it from the web, which he was not overly thrilled with that idea...
he posed the question if there was any sputnik options available to him?
does nyone have any knowledge on this question that I can pass on to him. if its possible to do it via sat, perhaps a brief statement of whats needed hardware wise/cost wise. providers??
also if it can be done I don't think he cares if he has to pay for a subscription to a provider. I think he just wants its done if its at all possible
google is my friend, but i am in a hurry as we are about to see BOOBS on BB @ 10:00 woohoo!!! (insert giggles like a school girl)

It's hard to make a come back when I havn't been anywhere
I finally got my head together, now my bodies falling apart.
為什麼不做你被塞滿
Here's a thread I saw over on . Have a look on Lyngsat also.

Good morning Leigh !!
Few options for Russian TV.
Yes . you can get Russia today on Ku Band on Optus D2., however it is only in English. (Also on Asiasat3s -C Band)
RTR Planteta is on C Band on Asiasat 2 which is FTA. in Russian. _You need the big dish for that one.
However for a selection of Russian Channels you need to pay.
Its on KU Band Asiasat 4 and they have 5 Russian Pay tv channels and 2 FTA Radio channels. For all these channels it is $74 dollars per month !!.
Express AM33 has ORT (Channel 1) however it is encrypted using Rosscrypt which is not accessible as yet.
The answer would be for a whitey for the Channels on Asiasat 4 , however it seems to be very elusive if available at all.
As joffaa stated it is very illusive to have a whitie for the service, so if your friend is desperate the answer is $74 per month for 5 channels or $64 for four (no ORT). The info is on connecttv site.
As far as streaming over internet goes we are all in the same boat, Also no need for somebody streaming when you can do it nicely from a site like bestrussiantv.com for $18 per month. You can get 35 channels plus access to their database where you can get virtually any show, movie or documentary which was screaned in a past.
Also there few free sites offering streaming with reasonable quality. I tried them and it was pretty impressive. The problem is obviously our internet deals and free sites content variety.
As far as the whitie goes I will be happy to be corrected .
I'd go with Joffa's suggestion for Asiasat 2 C Band,- for PLANETA, and then a Ku band dish for Russia Today on Optus D2, - which is also good for other FTA's. (NHK, CCTV9, PRESS TV etc).
Planeta would at least keep her up to date with events back home in Russie.
Optional - for future proofing, I'd opt for an HD satellite decoder or HD sat PVR.
Planeta, see the Frequency '4000':-
Russia Today on D2:-
5th Wyking Panzer Division
Put my fillers out - here is what I found:
122,2 E (As 4)
- one of 4 programms is in Ukranian half the time - Ir 2 (no alternative to legit subs)
- 2 FTA radio channels - poor quality
Mate gets it for $75 for his wife and not happy with the quality
156 E (C1) - 12407 V - 30 min prog in Russian (NTV) at 10 am 6 days/week

What would be the dish size for NZ? Lygsat does not provide EIRP.
Please advise.
Was asked by the guy who is getting AsiaSat 4 on his 90cm in Auckland. He is not happy, looking for alternatives.
Whats the provider ID for the Russian stuff ? I seem to have heaps of numbers new numbers popping up on my dm500 these days.
I found my old card just recently. Its Irdeto 2 5.3. Epsilon Card.
Card comes up as CA system Id. 0x0608 Country 'MCR'
Hmm I,ve got this one
CCcam-s2s| 608|irdeto |0,1,2,3 |3 0 |9be3b73fa99d6e95,715c87ab6d1875c2_47dc1*
thanks for the info people...
I'll pass it on.
So by the sounds of it. the easiest option is BIG dish @ d2 (a receiver as well) plus $75 a month??
Geez the sub is pricey... I am sure she wants ruski not english but.
thanks for the websites, I might get him to have a look at streaming as for that amount of money he could def upgrade net connection speed. it probally would not be so bad to watch it on her 22" lcd in the home office (if the quality is ok that is)
he's not a tight a$se but any free stuff might be the go even if its not a dedicated russian tv sat as long as it had some russian content i think that she would like that too
Joffa:"TR Planteta is on C Band on Asiasat 2 which is FTA." i like the sound of this. what size dish would he need how hard is it to get from melb, is it a case of buy dish/reciver/point/tune and recive?
at least it looks like he has a couple of options
mega thanks to those that helped...
You slightly missinterpret information.
With $75/month only small dish is required and aligned to Asiasat4. If you want to watch English channel from Russia you will need a small dish again aimed to D2. The big one 3m diameter at least is for the free channel joffaa was talking about.
thanks for clearing that up.... my bad
would a 90cm dish @ d2 work, for russian in english even though its in english free is the go me feels. (as i have a 90cm lying around doing nothing. he can have it if it helps or does it need to be bigger)
failing that i'll heed your advice and would try larger dish @ Planteta, i have also been told that a 2.3m would work with this???
for all the guys that have set this up, how hard is it IRL to do, i vaguely remember reading a tute on it buggered if i can find it again.. will have a look round for it some more
cheers
