years ago I used to print pcb layouts on acetate. You can print to acetate with a laser printer but you need a manual feed so that it keeps flat. So you can't put it in the paper drawer!

I got a few circuit boards I want to make up for prototyping and making my own boards with a laser printer and etching looks like some fun.
Anyone else done this before and know what laser printer works best ? I can pick up a cannon down the local computer store for $125.

I am not doing photo etching. Will be using photo paper and a iron to transfer it to the board. Very effective. Will find the good youtube vid I found.
[edit] Here it is.

before i started using photoresist boards and uv light setup
i used to use a samsung laser printer and print to high gloss photo paper then iron it onto the pcb baord and it would leave the tracks then etc as per normal.
Or if you have a few bucks instead of the gloss paper you can use PRESS N PEEL PCB FILM
"This is by far the easiest way to make Printed Circuit Boards from CAD software or magazine PCB layout artwork.
You simply make the PCB image by putting a Press 'n' Peel sheet of transfer film in the paper tray of a photocopier or Laser Printer (The sheet size is almost the same as the A4 paper tray). You then print or copy the PCB track image onto the film. Using a domestic clothes iron you press the image onto a precleaned piece of copper clad PCB. The image transfers to the copper and the image will not etch away. Ammonium Persulphate or Ferric Chloride are both OK."
but at $32 a sheet i stuck with the photo paper
I still have the laser printer today wand works well you can buy
Jaycar sell sheets that work on any HP laser.
Been reading some more on this. Using pages out of a glossy magazine gets some of the best results. Even better than the preferred "Staples photo basic" paper. HP laser printers are also preferred since they get up to a nice hot heat.
Now to get myself a laser printer and some crappy magazines

Found a cheap laser printer. Office works sells the HP Laserjet P1005 for $84. With a $30 cash back from HP it ends up being $54

I put a LJ3 out for hard junk collection with 2 brand new sealed toners about 4 years ago. I don't regret it at all now with these prices.
