Owners of an Android and/or Windows Mobile/Windows Phone by default use the competence of XDA Developers. For almost all wellknown brands/models there exists a specific subforum. Whenever a new device comes into the market, a related subforum gets created.

If the guys/girls at XDA can't help you solving/answering any issue/question you have, then nobody else around the world can do.

Our VPS was provisioned today and is now online, I am waiting for our hosts support to move the site. Its not super urgent , as long as its done in the next week or so and I dont get another bill on the old server I will be happy.

As someone has asked me what the difference is between the change :

Since early 2000's we have been hosted on a Dedicated Server. A site the size of Austech and with constant visitors cannot be hosted on a typical shared hosting account. Dedicated servers are not cheap and we are moving to a VPS (Virtual Private Server) to save on money and reduce our hosting bill which is several thousand dollars a year.

Dedicated Server : A web hosting "computer" that you rent all of, ie, all the resources on it are yours to use.

Shared Hosting : A hosting company buys/leases a dedicated server and divides the resourses (hard drive space and bandwidth) up in to hosting packages which they sell so people can host websites on them. A typical shared hosting server is of high spec components and most have hundreds of hosting accounts on them. Resources are shared, so one person abusing the service can impact others, which is why if you grow to big, you will be asked to move up to something more powerfull. Shared hosting is for average size web sites.

VPS (Virtual Private Server) : A hosting company buys/rents a dedicated server and using clever software, splits it up in to say 4 different accounts. This software is different to shared hosting as seperate resources can be added or subtracted from each account and run independantly. The software also allows each account to run the same as a dedicated box, you can reboot your section of the server with out effecting anyone else.

The VPS we are moving on to is very comparable to our dedicated box , quad core, on both. Should we ever get busier (heres hoping) there is scope to pay for more resources, ie, bandwidth, hard drive space. Moving around is now not a big issue, moving to this host has been a fantastic move as they are fully manged ( I no longer have to deal with major technical issues), their prices are very good and their service and knowledge are brilliant.

It was going too well, I turned the old/new forums off in the wrong order. We have lost a handfull of posts made yesterday, nothing too serious. By all means if you posted something yesterday and see its now gone please feel free to re post it.

Got several at 830pm last night after it came back on, today got 1 at 11am, probably about right for me as I've been watching Bathurst the last 3 days. so not much interaction.
EDIT: Just had time in between F1 & MotoGP to check, date stamp is actually 856 am for several & the one at 11 am.
also had several at 558 pm last night..

    Hi admin
Read all the posts pages 1&2 and I'am now more informed as to the problems in running a super forum such as this one that I did not realise before.
I would like to donate as a premium member but I don't have a paypal A/C.
Can I still donate. What other ways of donating can I use, maybe direct debit or something instead of paypal.
    Thanks

    Hi BB

We only accept Paypal, which allows people to pay :

Via funds in a Paypal Account
    Via Credit Card
    Via Debit from Bank Account

This automates the entire process which means we dont have manually change peoples account status each time it changes (which would cost more in resources than what Premium Membership is worth). Austech does not have a bank account and therefore doesnt accept bank deposits.

With prepaid credit cards now being able to be purchased at local supermarkets such as Woolworths/Safeway and Australia Post, its easier than ever to make payments. Woolworths/Safeway have both single use and reloadable cards which would probably be your best option.

Yeah, its a pain in the arse Gmail thing, I believe I can get it removed. Its because the message goes via our mailer and is from a Gmail address and not via Google servers.

I would appreciate it if a few people could subscribe to this thread so we can get this email notification thing fixed up.
