No No, he genuinely believes that... We almost had a fight over it when i told him he was full of shit.

It would be entertaining, if he actually wasn't so sure about it....
He will argue until he is black and blue about this marvellous deal he scored and how he has free accom anywhere in the world from the purchase he made in Thailand.

Takes around 3 years, 2 years of going very very quite on the matter, before he admits he got duped.

The time share scam in Thailand was non stop when we first got there.
When you get seen around a bit or get a tan they leave you alone.
Simple way to get rid of them is tell them your leaving tommorow or dont have a credit card as they slow down on their scooter before they even speak...... a scammer told us that and it worked

    Thats a good tip.
As the first 2 questions any local asks you in SE Asia is "How long are you here for?" and "Where are you staying?"
My answer to both is "No where in particular and everywhere in general"

    spot on Oceanboy

"How long are you here for?" or "How long have you been here for?"
translated means have I got enough time to scam you or have you been here long enough to know better

    "Where are you staying"
why would you tell a random person on the street where you are staying? - you wouldn't give someone you didn't know your address in Australia just because they asked for it

When they ask me my name in Bali, I give them my Balinese name (generic name which means I'm the oldest Son) and they generally leave me alone after that

One thing I nearly got caught out for in the Bangkok airport - some official legit looking people in airport type clothing asked me for my boarding pass and papers in the terminal once and I worked out later that they were not officials at all but trying to sell something
You wouldn't think scammers would be operating inside the terminal near the check-in desks

Yeah, it is a shame you have to be "on guard" most of the time.
Kinda takes the fun out of the Holiday.
