Now TV box in shops now for cheap Sky Sports and Movies
I wonder if foxtel will release it with their own firmware down the track.
Look Here -> |
Looks a lot like a Roku STB & Remote with some cosmetic changes .....
Sky pumped some investment into a company called Roku last year. Roku makes Internet-streaming set-top boxes and it's now clear what Sky was up to, because the Now TV Box is essentially a rebranded Roku LT with some services removed, such as Netflix, and some other limitations introduced. As the LT retails for £40, Sky is obviously subsidising most of the cost of the Now TV Box.
And Sky UK is a fairly Close relation to Foxtel (though Murdoch).... so I guess it could be something looked at for Australia

$20 Uk pound delivered if anyone wants one to play with.
Good thinking , likely to be region locked?
I wonder if you'd need to sign up to sky with a UK credit card to make the box work?

It is a rebadged roku, yes you can use your current roku.

I think you can use a Roku STB to get all the channels in the Sky "NOW TV" STB .... including Sky "Now TV" ... plus a lot more ...
I hear 4od (channel 4 on demand) is coming soon ....... then I guess ITV Player ? ..... & maybe 3 Player ? (Irleand TV) may also come to the Sky "Now TV" STB ?
As For Sky "NOW TV" Movies (@ 8.99 BPS per month for 3 months, then 15.00 BPS per month after that) & Sports (@ 9.99 BPS for a 24hour pass)
After conversion to Australian Dollars etc it may end up as expensive or more expensive than Foxtel ..... ?
also depends on the content .....
The Sky UK new release Movie channels get the new releases pretty quickly .......... (have to see how it compares to Foxtel ?)
& have to see how the Sky UK Sports content compares to Foxtel ?
I also hear that other content from Sky UK may be put on the "NOW TV" service like "Sky One", "Sky Atlantic" channels .... etc ..... latter on ....
I also hear that the "NOW TV" service is also on other STB's (Platforms) like the "Humax STB" UK, & "YOUVIEW" UK ..... that also carry the UK "freeview service" .......
this maybe something we may see here in Australia with Australian Freview STB's & even Vast STB's ....... in the future .... if our internet is up to it ?
