Is that correct, as that would be a bummer, I would want to be able to stream?
they're talking about the built-in wifi of the camera Tiny
wifi has a very limited range anyway
you can still stream with the use of tx and rx modules either 2.4 or 5.8 Ghz

for those thinking of trying it, this looks like a fairly cheap option >
still need battery and radio with that though

and by the way wifi is 2.4 and phantoms are controlled by 5.8 wifi the cam back to the phone or tab with a booster ..No need to worry about intrerferances from that its other stronger 2.4 signals thats a worry..

    Hers a screen shot ..

Is there a product or drone that will follow a target if it moves??

I know with a camera on Tripod, there is a product that will allow the camera to pan left and right to follow the subject.
The subject wears a locating beacon thing and the camera just follows it.

Is there anything in the drone world that will allow that?

Not automatically tracking a subject afaik but you can get fpv goggles that have head tracking , ie. if you move your head left the camera will pan left
you can see here that some of the Fatshark goggles have head tracking
as you can see the better ones have a wider field of view as well
    here's another cheap cam
this one has a tft screen on the back which could be handy

    The principle is simple enough.
You have a GPS which sends NMEA data of your position to the drone and the drone maintains a fixed distance from your position and if need be it could easily determine which direction you are and point a camera at you.

It would be kind of cool to be hang gliding and have this critter flying along side with a gopro from 25m away. Or hovering in a thermal as I circle it.

Anyhow... there was a steam train doing some joyrides near my house last weekend. Plenty of people out with cameras taking some photos so I thought I'd get me some choice video.

This one worked out real well.

There are some other videos of the day on my youtube page like this one.

You can plug the gopro directly into an FPV transmitter.
I'm working up to an FPV system, I could build it all myself, but I'm just buying some time while I find the best parts for the job.

While we're on the subject of FPV... this one is a bit amusing.

Wow that Airdog is way to cool.

    • Autonomously follows you
Tracks your position by receiving signal from AirLeash and follows you.

    • Easy to operate
Fully autonomous from take-off to landing. No remote control skills required.

    • STABILIZED VIDEO
Gyroscope stabilized gimbal. Forget about shaky footage.

Just goes to show you that the world we live in is moving so fast, you just think of a tool & someone has already invented it.

Woof Woof, i want an Air Dog!
They would also make a great Cell Tower repeater for temporary comms into black spots

    Me too.

Had a thought about its abillities, if you had several of them (after you win lotto), you could have them fly in formation as a swarm.

I wonder what happens when they get low on juice... they better have enough left to make it back to the beach.

Actually not so much of a repeater, I was thinking that if you only need to place a short call, then you put your phone on the drone and bluetooth it the ground.
Given the short flight duration, they're not going to be much of a permanent thing. A tethered balloon might do better for a longer duration.
Though thinking about it, if you were going to tether something, why not send power up to the quad on the tether.
Down side to that is that helicopters, even quads do not tether well.

So what might be best is a heavier than air tethered blimp/kite/quad hybrid.
If it's windy, some of the drag is converted to lift.
Helium/hydrogen give it some buoyancy and the motors give it the rest of lift and a bit of steering.

A lot of the GPS enabled multi rotor craft, have a fail safe system for low battery & or lost connection with transmitter & they return to take off point or at least attempt to.

I'm sure with the Airdog's automated flying software it would do the same.

These drones seem to have endless possibilities.
Even for a power distribution company to check power poles, cross arms, insulators, connections, towers.
Great inspection/pre inspection tool with no need for an expensive Cherry Picker with 2 crew etc (however with limitations).

Then again, flying drones around power poles/line may involve its own set of risks.

They would be handy for flying in fishing braid over high tree limbs, so you can then pull in your rope for climbing of swinging
