And this is the last mile of copper that the FTTN will use .
Telstra will axe copper network
By Cosima Marriner
November 14, 2003
Telstra will replace its century-old copper wire phone network with new technology within the next 15 years, saying the ageing lines are now at "five minutes to midnight".
Telstra executives revealed the problem at a Senate inquiry into broadband services on Wednesday - the same day the company was forced to apologise again for problems with its BigPond email service.
Telstra's chief executive, Ziggy Switkowski, has promised to spend $100 million upgrading BigPond, after 1.5 million internet customers had their emails delayed by up to 48 hours.
The Telstra board is likely to come under fire for the email problems from shareholders at the company's annual general meeting today.
Telstra's manager of regulatory strategy, Tony Warren, gave the Senate broadband inquiry details of the company's problems with its ageing copper network.
He said ADSL, the high-speed internet service that runs over copper wires, was the bridging broadband technology Telstra was using until it replaced the network.
He described ADSL as the "last sweat" of revenue Telstra could wring out of the 100-year-old copper wire network.

C'mon weirdo, what a copout.
Why shouldn't other Australian taxpayers get the same benefits as city dwellers.
Where does your food come from?
What feeds your gut every day?
Rural users are the worst off in health
Worst off in suicide
Worst off buying petrol
Worst off for transport.
Why should they have to move, why should they have to pay more.
How about we make things even and slow you buggers down to our speeds....I bet you wouldn't all be running for your unlimited quotas and streaming your netflix and hulu's etc everywhere.
Whether it be fibre or copper, make it even and the same cost for everyone.
For f's sake, this is about something for the whole of Australia, not just those that live on the edges and get everything spoon fed to them!!
I think some of you need to get out once and a while and see what Australia doesn't give to everyone, let alone the internet.
I hope one day you will understand the rural Australians lack of services, and lament those harsh words.

This guy who wrote this is obviously a left wing lunatic, (sorry for the cut and paste)
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

Frankston my area should have it completed by May 2014

Thanks pheggie
I followed your second link and found different information from the original nbn site I checked the roll out status on.
This one tells me wireless is underway
I'm getting very confused.
Does anyone know if fibre/copper/wireless/satellite access to nbn will be the same basic cost to subscribe to? i.e. entry cost to all should be the same shouldn't it, no matter what source it is from. I do realize that fibre or copper will most likely be quicker though.
Unfortunately not every can or want to move to the few areas that have full high speed broadband available.
There are some foolish people who need to live outside those areas to grow the crops and transport either the raw or processed product to the cities.
To many it will come as a very rude shock to learn that milk doesnt come in bottles and that a major volume of the grain for their bread and the vegetable oils used in cooking and margarine is processed at Manildra NSW, 300 kms inland.
In NSW Bathurst and Cowra until recently canned tonnes of various vegetables and fruits along with Griffiths in the south and the Riverina/Mildura area.
It would be wonderful indeed if we could all live on a Number 401 Bus route or to even have a Bus route pass within a 100 miles.
Although as we are selling off or closing down much of our processing plants, we may soon be able to a suburb near you and enjoy all its benefits that we dont have now, wont that be grand?

Viewer, i was being physicist. i have a very low opinion of politicians and i believe if you "can" every thing in opposition beware when you are in power (and vise versa)
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
I can't argue over that.
The problem these days is the following of the political line of your party.Step out of line, and you are dead on your feet.
Government and oppositions never seem to work together on anything.
It's a matter of either opposite opinions for the sake of it, or a process of "she said,I said" and no "us"
For the life of me, if it weren't for the old days of building things like the Snowy Mountains Scheme, Sydney Harbour Bridge, road building like the F3 through to Newcastle,( other schemes out of NSW included) etc, then we would never get them done now, due to bickering between the party political enemies.
This whole process of argument for arguments sake sickens me, and as a taxpayer, all I see is things getting worse...WHO EVER IS IN POLITICAL POWER.....no wonder our youth is disillusioned and are not politically caring.
Andrew can you please close this thread, all it's doing is bringing out the worst in forum members and for me in particular it's giving me the shits, I know it's like what's on TV if you don't like it change channels so let's all shake hands and have a beer or this forum could easily die in the arse.
Just don't read it toyboy, if you don't like the comments. Some of us are very passionate on this, and why shouldn't everyone be able to discuss what interests them.
Further, it was only a little while ago we were all requested to consider the drop in postings on this here forum, and as forum members,to try to contribute more to discussion in topics.
Your not being asked to agree or not, and personally, some forum member tussling between members, that is not intended to hurt another member, is often a good conversation topic, and a chance for members to openly speak their minds.
We all will never agree on things, but sometimes it is eye opening to see how something so simple to some to achieve, is seen as so difficult for them to do so.
Without wishing to be boring, you may remember post 49 I wrote.
Now going to nbn wireless service provider page I can get 2 different results for my location again.
When I use the page to enter my full address, and it does a search, it says Build commenced | Fixed wireless.
When I pick up the pointer and move it to my house on the map, it says it is coming.
Weirder and weirder are these information maps, albeit, it seems to be creeping closer?

meh rubbish
my comment was a bit of a tongue in cheek remark to some of the members that keep on harping on about the same issue
all the excuses you bring up I've heard before viewer
people in the bush have always had lesser services
isn't that why people love living in the bush? to get away from it all?
it's just logical that it's is NOT feasible to have all the same services as high density areas
it's the same reason you won't see a hospital, ice skating rink or cinema in every small country town
if the numbers don't stack up and it's just not affordable should we just build it anyway and stick ourselves in huge debt just so we can be fair to everyone?
[QUOTE=peteramjet;575280]You haven't explained why I should pay for your faster internet? To watch YouTube?
I don't ask for you to pay for my higher costs because of where I choose to live, nor do I expect the Gov't to either.
The NBN should be no different.[/QUOTE
Who said you have to pay for my faster internet?
Do you pay higher costs because of where you live?
If so please elaborate as you may be getting dudded..
You've heard the excuses before hey?
I wonder why then, they keep popping up.
Using reverse logic...
Why should I pay the same taxes towards your...
ferries
buses
trains
roads
hospitals
entertainment venues
infrastructure
etc...the list goes on
You are the user...you should pay for this stuff yourself, as you lot use it, we regional people don't use it, so why should we contribute our taxes for you to sponge off of?
