Default Netgear CG3100D-2 Cable modem router

I have just upgraded to Telstra's DOCSIC 3 service and they (Telstra) replaced my old Surfboard with a Netgear CG3100D-2 Cable modem router.
Everything works fine and the speed is great but I also run a ROKU box and I want to be able to set the DNS through my router as opposed to through my PC.
I can access the router via 192.168.0.1 and can see in the basic settings where the changes seem to be needed to be changed however (I Think) because I'm on a dynamic IP the changes I attempt to make won't save.
Does anyone know how I can make the relevant changes required??
    Thanks
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

A Google search reveals that altering DNS settings in this "Telstra-nobbled" router appears to be a common problem.

An UnblockUs reply can be seen at .

Perhaps contacting Telstra BigPond Technical Support via the website will provide the information you require.

I understand why some ISP's use customised software in such devices, but it makes altering the defaults very difficult when more "advanced users" wish to do so.

Thanks Tristen, Might be time to give the Roku the flick

Perhaps installing a more "user-friendly" modem is the answer.

Researching the availability of alternative "un-nobbled" software for the modem is another possibility. (I've done that on several occasions with success).

Don't let a mere machine beat you!

I wonder, would it be possible to run the new Netgear CG3100D-2 simply as a modem then bridge it to my original Netgear WNDR3400 (this model does allow the DNS change)??
Hmmm might give this some research and thought

Some posts I have read indicate that it's possible to run the Netgear CG3100D-2 in bridge mode and connect it to a different router.

The pertinent question is, Does running in bridge mode disable the DNS section of the modem/router?

The proof of the pudding is in the eating!

Let us know if it solves your problem.

Thanks Tristan, I finally got the bottom of all this and now have Netfix and everything else working on my Roku2
I headed over to Whirlpool and put up a similar post to the one I started here and after time was contacted by a member named Revs per Minute
He was a member who repairs Apple Time Capsules, he suggested that I use one of these devices in Bridge Mode. He offered to sell me one ($50.00 delivered with a new PSU) and even offered to setup the unit using my Unotelly settings.
The box arrived at the office on Friday and today I plugged everything in.

    The basic setup is;
Plug the TC's WAN to the CG3100 then plug the PC and the ROKU to the TC
Did a factory Reset on the ROKU
and viola, everything setup and worked as expected.
    I'm a very happy vegemite
Kudos to Revs per Minute, if you also happen to be a member here (perhaps under a different name) or where ever you are and thanks also to Tristan for all your help.
    Thanks
