open office
ive been using open office for a few years now, and it suits my small needs well.
the other day i did an update on it and at the end it said something like "congratulations, you now have a free office suite thats compatible with microsoft office"
thats bullshit because it still dosnt open offices' docx files.

There is a work around though. You can use the updated Word Viewer from the Microsoft website and use it to open the docx document. This document can then be copied and pasted into Open Office.
A hassle I know, but I'm pretty sure Open Office will catch up. (eventually).
i already looked into that, downloaded the latest word viewer then the dumb thing said i had to download something else to make that work with the particular docx files i was looking at.
open office 2.4 apparently opens these files in linux but not windows, they say open office 3 will do it though.
serves me right for ever installing MS office.
another thing i should mention is all the workarounds i come across on the net are for linux, as if no one who uses windows would ever dream of using open source software hey!
yeah i hate MS Office with a passion, try working in a busy print shop, with every young office girl supplying print files in Word 2007, I mean why should we spend big dollars on Office 2007 just so every computer across our 5 print shops open docx files?
We are moving to a pdf workflow for instant digital print, from now on a instant $20 fee will apply if you have a MS office file.
Edit: I'm probably fighting a losing battle.
