Ahhh, you forget the Turnbull Grand Plan is to instal fibre to those who can afford it, like Industrial Parks and BIG Business which until today included General Motors, Ford and QANTAS so this technology isnt going to be totaly disregarded, it just wont apply to those of us on the ageing Copper Network using FTTN system.............

You obviously did not see the admins post and emails appealing for members to make MORE posts.

But keep counting cause I ain't about to stop discussing the NBN until the topic is barred.

Unfortunately a lot of the posters believe in the Jack system.

I cant see that this is a 'whinge thread' when its dealing with a possible advancement of the Fibre Optic technology and may even 'bleed over' into other means of conveying a signal more efficiently and reducing 'errors'.

I thought thats what the forum heading was all about, 'Australian Internet and NBN' and Allovers posting fits that perfectly, like posting in the Automotive section of GMH's possible closure of all production of motor vehicles in Australia.

That's the most clear and concise description of the NBN proposal I have seen and explained to me some things I wasnt too clear on.
To say the least it was one hell of a Grand Idea and preparing to commit to such an undertaking even with the best of intentions and 'projected' benefits took some commitment.
Bluntly I detest any 'projections' made on any proposals made because they to me have little substance in the long run.

This is looking like the quoted example of the hybrid cabling run around Sydney and Melbourne that missed so many to serve so few, a prime example of Commercial stupidity.

What a total cop out of an answer, 'Better a Half Full Glass', we dont have the bloody glass to begin with, half full or half empty!!!!
What we have is a paper thin container that will barely hold air, let alone water.

Firstly we NEVER asked for the 'Fastest Internet in the World', what we asked for was one equal to everyone elses, LIKE YOURS FOR INSTANCE or is that too much to ask???
We would be paying for it the same as we pay for services like Bus's, Trains etc that we never use or need.

My fervent hope is that one day circumstance will place you out of your obviously well provided for situation and you will find yourself 'Slumming' it with us lessor considered users and you will experience first hand the differences between what you have and what is fobbed off to us as an after thought.

OK Weirdo and what did you think he intended then?
Also would you be prepared to divulge what speed your internet is
    ?
You know "you show me yours and I shall show you mine".

    Mine is 1.5Mbps.

Weirdo I thought this statement sums the NBN argument fairly well so have a read of it as it should take your mind off your "change of life' you are obviously going through at the moment.

A NBN is an important and critical INFRASTRUCTURE for this country for the years and decades ahead. And not just simply a medium for faster porn downloading as asserted ad nauseum by LNP supporters. (No one should doubt their sincerity since they seem to speak from ... own experience).

    - The global competitive landscape demands a country to have a world class infrastructure, be it sea, land, air or superhighway routes, to support, accommodate and facilitate the delivery and distribution of goods and services from sellers to buyers, and vice versa, in an efficient manner. It's called market efficiency.

    - Any private monopoly of any of these important national infrastructure will result in market inefficiency with less than maximum benefits going to and enjoyed by consumers.

    - Surveys conducted by countries, confirmed by separate studies by OECD clearly established a link between faster broadband Internet with a higher growth in GDP in member countries.

    - An inferior FTTN will never be able to catch up with FTTH regardless of whatever technology advancements in copper to come. Laws of physics 101.

    - On the other hand, the social costs of alcohol abuse in Australia (2004–05) were estimated to be in excess of $15b (Collins & Lapsley 2008), with $10.8b attributed to tangible costs (eg labour and health costs) and $4.5b to intangible costs such as loss of life through violence (Collins & Lapsley 2008). This is in just one financial year, I should add.

Conclusion: Only a party leader who has a simple notion that:

"We are absolutely confident 25 megs is going to be enough — more than enough — for the average household.". (Tony Abbott, 2013).

and is hell-bent on ideology which, whether accidentally or intendedly, benefits Foxtel's business model by having an inferior 25mbps. It will rob Australians of their ability to compete effectively on a global market in future for the reasons stated above.

It will be a sad day when Australians realise that it's too late and even more expensive to play catch up converting FTTN to FTTH....

And weirdo once you turn 70 you don't have any "change of life" problems any longer cause nothing changes much.

No Weirdo you are right, i did post it as a whinge, you may be surprised i am apolitical, but when a leader says to his minister "kill the NBN" i want to know why. I did believe it will be beneficial to our country and i will keep posting as much as i can. My whinge is the same as most that the decision has been made and all that is following is BS
I agree that two idiots (or 1.5) devised the idea and lucked on to a good idea that will benefit eventually all.
i personally have a speed of 30 megs and must say those with lesser i can only feel sorry for as they do not know what they are missing out on as you would know if you are pushing 100megs
