a) would help to have all infos
b) there should be no difference between using the SD or internal memory if the setup is identical
c) with "in vehicle" you mean inside your car or when connecting the car charger? Is it the original charger?
Recently installed latest maps etc from this forum (thanks to providers) but having ongoing problem when starting 730 on internal memory.
Every time I start TomTom in vehicle it asks me if I want to connect to PC. I click no button and it boots into menu. If I touch yes button it shuts down. When it boots after selecting no it works OK for about 2 to 3 minutes then wants to shut down, which it does if I miss the screen prompt.
Anyone know of a workaround for this. Have been on TomTom Home and updated GPSfix etc but no change to boot prompt in vehicle.
TIA

Thanks for your reply du35m, was being a bit lazy when posting and had a feeling you might query my hazy info.
Anyway, I have gone to car and got unit and plugged into pc (which also asks my if I want to connect to computer).
Info is
a) Tomtom GO730, Navcore 9.510, Bootloader 5.5237, Map Australia 915.5074
b) only using internal memory
c) In vehicle means inside car and using original 12v power supply charger.
No major drama but annoying in that I have to keep checking the 730 unit to cancel it shutting down. As the bluetooth is also stuffed, may be time to look at a new unit?
cheers

In this combination it definately not normal to ask for a PC connection, the only time a TT should ask is if there is not only a 5V supply but also active data lines.
The charger does not provide data lines.
Since you map is a bit old anyway I suggest a hard reset, followed by the TT clear flash tool,
after that make a backup, wipe the device and install a fresh version of the 9.510 and the new 920 map.
If you still get the same problems after that you most likely have a hardware fault somewhere.
In case you do look for a new TT I suggest to stick with the model.
Not only is it good, but you also have more option when getting a second hand unit - if the screen is broken and TT dirt cheap you simply use your display.
