    Default DM500s Logging Question

Hi guys this may sound stupid so pls forgive me if it is .

I know normally to log with dreambox you put the correct pid and seperator and place on channel you wish to log for provider you want. Box is connected with null cable or rs232 cable via port 31338 and you also have the lan cable connected via router /switch and log with your favourite logging program.

what I would like to know is if its possible to log straight via the lan to another pc in the house which is not near the box via lan and change port number. if so could someone pls advise which port number to use if it can be done without the null modem/rs232 cable.

    thankyou in advance

not sure what you are doing and what logging software

    but with a dm500

all you need is for it to be connected to your router/modem and then using something like
    IRD_LogExtract
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

that's exactly what I am doing so the port 31338 I assume that's for the null cable/rs232 cable correct ? or is that actually a port that can be changed.
reason I ask is because I have never changed it . I always logged with pc connected directly. now am wanting to log from another pc in the house without having to move the dm500 from its location. Can that be done with same settings or do I need both cables connected. in other words the lan cable of course and the serial cable. does the port change from 31338 to port 80 or something like that or does it stay the same

As long as your DM500 is connected to youir network you shouldnt have a problem logging
Install the logging software on the pc you want to log with and in the software put the dm500 ip in
Its basically the same as what you have done in the past but you wiill be logging from a different pc
Im not sure why you are using a null cable for, all you need is your network cable to do the logging

31338 is the port. You can log from a PC via ip

    Increase your knowledge...

RS232 (serial) and USB (also serial) ports are designated as COM 1, COM 2, COM 3 etc.

Network (TCP and UDP) ports are designated as 31338, 80, 21, 23 etc.

There is a more detailed description concerning tcp ports at and

For all ports (Serial and TCP/UDP) see .

You don't need the Null modem cable to log, just the lan cable to your router/switch & from there to your PC

    Use the same port number,

Log with your favorite logging program while the dream box 500 or 800 is switched on & a channel of the provider you want to log
