Even for the Nexus7 it would not be worth to switch.
Take a proper provider and get tablet in a shop.
Did anybody take up Alinta's offer of a free 7" android tablet for churning to them? If so is the tablet any good? External memory card slot? Any links to specs?

Dragging and dropping image of the tablet into Google Images got me which seems to list specs:
Those specs look like crap, however. Wouldn't go for it for the tablet, those specs are what would be recommended for android 1.x. It's like the speed you would get from installing Windows 7 on a computer that has windows 98/2000 recommended specs :P.General

Its more than likely junk they will offload to you.
Decent 7 inch tablets are cheap as it is, those would be worth almost nothing.
Not seen Alinta up here in NSW either but I view all these 'sweetners' with the query of how much is their 'generosity' going to cost me.
Its most likely this Alita company have hired a promoter to supply these Tablets which could pose a problem if any warranty claims are made in the future as the 'supplier' may cease to exist when the promotion is finished.
You need to ensure that this is a current model and not a superseded one with minimum specifications and was bought up as an 'end of Production Run' for a few cents on the dollar as I read happened with another such promotion.
I am damned if I can understand how a company 100's of kilometres away can sell me electricity cheaper than the ones whose infrastructure is used to supply the power to you.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
I think it's this one. I wasn't expecting something fantastic for nothing but thought it worth the question.

there have been a few re-sellers up here in tweed but its not worth switching over to them
1: country energy ( now origin energy ) are good in that they give you some leeway if you fall behind
with payment
2: electricity prices in NSW are regulated and as such there is fk all difference between all of them
3: every new one i have seen paper work for dont like the time of use setup i have because you switch
all the big energy appliances over to night eg pool - water heater - washing machine etc
5: all the new ones have very expensive rates over summer and longer peak times
6: all have wanted a bond equal to the average of your last 4 bills , fk that im not giving them $1000 bond
7: and as the old saying goes for a few dollars best to stay with the devil you know.

Nor have we mate , when they mentioned it i said what the frk
and they said anyone who has a bill of over $600 1/4 they
requested a bond.
bloody hell mine is around the $1000-1200 every 1/4 because i am charging
huge batteries constantly for my work machines and a stupid pool.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
Might be worth to switch to a big solar system for the battery charging.....

The 'OFF the Grid' option is definately an attraction until you do the sums and look at the pro's and cons.
Firstly you need the space to mount the Panels in the best position to maximise exposure, then there's having a suitable place to house the battery's and remember they only have a projected life of 10 years.
The next is the cost, with or without any subsidies compared to what your current electricity bills are now Per Annum.
One advantage with an 'Off Grid system' is that once its up and running, you would be immune from the continually rising costs of Grid supplied power, but off set that with the cost of eventually replacing the batteries at a future date.
Also there could be the cost of replacing/repairing any panels from damage (storm) as well as batteries to be considered.
With an unknown total cost of a suitable installation to meet your maximum needs divided by your current bill of $4000 Per Annun would = the number of years it would take you to come even............
