XP Pro x64
I'm building a new PC, I like XP pro and want to know if the 64-bit version will still be compatible with 32-bit applications? It might sound like a stupid question.
the reason i'm going 64-bit is because I heard 32-bit OS cannot recognise more than 3Gb of RAM.

Yes, it generates a special folder for 32 bit applications and runs them in a form of compatibility mode. I use X64 on my gaming machine, one note though is that the only anti virus I'm aware of for it is Avast, thankfully free.
its fine mate, im running it on my desktop.
you might want to look into windows 2008 server as well heard thats pretty sweet i havnt had a chance to get it going yet.

AVG Free runs on XP pro 64 too..
The only place you could run into problems is with some drivers. I put my XP Pro 64bit on mum computer and they only had a Beta printer driver for her printer and none for her photo printer. I also had to get newer versions of some of her programs too as the old ones will not run on XP Pro 64.
I'm running Vista Ultimalte 64 now and love it.
I had a compatibility issue wtih driver. I had a usb wireless dongle that didnt support Windowsxp 64bit and I had an older printer that in the end couldn’t set it up. I give up and went back to xp 32bit.
Less headache.
I like the idea of windows 2008 server, but once again, I'd be researching driver compatibility if I were going to try this os first.

I ended up going Vista, word is Microsoft is phasing XP out and they soon won't be supporting XP anymore.
hmm.. Well that maybe the case with windows xp 64bit falling on its face and surely xp 32 bit will follow after a few years yet? I mean its inevitable but those are strong words.. You said soon?
