    Default Aftermarket receiver and Foxtel

    Hi All,

I'm looking for some help with the below:

I'm getting a new Foxtel satellite system installed and want to share this with my parents, I'd be buying aftermarket hardware at their house and hopefully will cardshare with them.

    1. Are there currently any aftermarket receivers which can read a new Foxtel card?
    2. If there are, any that are capable or serving to another box (Server to Client CCCAM etc)
    3. Any tips or suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Brutus.

Unfortunately there are no receivers that can currently read Foxtel NDS cards (NDS will be printed on the back). The old Austar cards can be read in some 3rd party receivers but then only a small portion of those can be shared which are the old 4.1 version Irdeto cards with Spongebob or Chuckie printed on the card.

The cheapest way to share if you have an NDS card is to get a multi room installation second box and then share the costs. It gets cheaper with a 3rd and 4th box

    What Leroy said

NDS is not sharable, your probably only way of saving some bucks is with a multi room install and then taking the receiver to their place and setting up your own dish.

    Thanks guys,

I've got some friends down the road who have an older foxtel satellite setup. I'll cancel my install and get a multi-room from them. Possibly they have an older card in their unit.

Its probably unlikely that you will have much luck there either. Foxtel have been running NDS for quite a few years now, I havent taken much interest in this for quite a while but I am not sure Foxtel even have Irdeto cards in service anymore. From memory they swapped them all out when they went NDS.

Austar uses Irdeto and Foxtel NDS. As Leroy mentioned, only certain older cards will work for sharing and very very few Austar subscribers still have them

In reality, there is very little you can do with card sharing because of this.

Hi Guys, I checked my friends box and card, they've got an 'Austar' printed red on one side, on the other has the card number and 'Irdeto' symbols. Am I in any luck?

They're better. Some of those can be used in third party receivers bur are hard to share. Does your mate live in the same area? If so odd they are mixing boxes.

Yeah, lives 2-300M away. How do I know for certain it can be used or not? BTW, I got my own system hooked up yesterday (all aftermarket products and without a satellite finder with no knowledge of how this all works!) and works perfectly with my friends box.

You should also keep in mind Foxtel are likely to change all previous Austar Irdeto equipment over to new iQ decoders, which are all NDS.

    Multiroom is the best solution.

You will need to find out what version it is. From memory, the serial number will tell you that.
Maybe if you can post up a picture and blur out the last 4 numbers or something.? Someone should be able to ID it and let you know what you can and cant do with them.

Also, note MTV' s comments. They will swap these cards out......Foxtel has taken full ownership of Austar recently and there is now no reason for Irdeto to be used as Foxtels's parent company own NDS and wont want to keep paying Irdeto licencing.

My daughter recently got Foxtel installed, in a regional area. They were supplied a Mystar HD and an Irdeto smartcard.

Yep, they are still doing it but what it comes down to is why would you keep paying encryption fees to Irdeto when you own NDS ? Given that in the last few months that Foxtel has merged all Austar customers to their billing and that Irdeto cards are the last part of active piracy on Australian Pay TV, its just a matter of time.

If she is unhappy (like lots of people) with her Mystar she can ask them to replace it with an IQ.

I received a booklet in the mail last week from Foxtel with the front cover reading 'FOXTEL, Now in Your Area'.

I went through the small/fine print and nowhere can I see the usual admonition that 'Customers in the former Austar areas would receive a Mystar instead of an IQ'.

We know from advertising by Foxtel that a new IQ stb is due to be launched during the year so I thought when that happens, all new customers, both Metropolitan and Regional will be receive this model as standard.

Even the Monthly Guide (January) has dropped that notice that Austar customers would be issued with a Mystar series STB.
The word 'Austar' is not even mentioned anymore.

It wont happen overnight but eventually I believe all the SD versions, ie Atlas, Titan and Pace will be replaced either as they need repair or the current stock makes it more viable to do so.

Was this on a SD or HD package?

    Hi All,

Well the multiroom was setup today and it's all working with 3 IQ HD's at site 1.

    Problem:
Box 2 was taken to site 2, works correctly.
Box 3 was taken to site 2, won't work (No signal)
Box 3 was taken back to site 1, works.
Box 1 was unplugged from the wall at site 1 and box 3 stops working (no signal)
Box 1 plugged in and goes through bootup, finds signal and box 3 starts working

So it appears there's a dependency that box 1 has to be plugged in and working for box 3 to work.

How can I get around this?

At a guess the LNB power on box 3 is turned off if wont work on its own.
You dont mention what happens to Box 2 at Site 1 when Box 1 is disconnected, does it stay on or go off?

When they did the installation, was it all new or from a previous one and did you see what was done, like how many cables connect to the LNB and do they go through any other devises before connecting to each IQ?

I know how to instal 3 or more single Tuner STB's but no idea on what has to be done for dual Tuner types.

What gordon says seems to make sense.
Another with IQ 2+ HD's, make sure you plug in BOTH LNB cables (1 in Tuner1, 1 in Tuner2), they need both to work correctly on all transponders.

I wouldn't think they would loop through boxes so no need for power to be on.

IF we are correct and one doesnt have the LNB power on, how do you turn it on in an IQ?

Leroy, 'loop throughs' generaly dont allow power to pass do they so it serves nop purpose having it on.
Also too we have to remember that Foxtel really dont expect their STB's to be any where else but where they were installed, do they..............

I haven't tried box 2 at site 1 independently however box 1 works at site 1 when box 2 is at site 2 and box 3 is unplugged. In terms of the connection it was an original 1 LNB out to 1 cable, this was changed to a 4 LNB out to now power 6 outlets (2 for each box).

Yep, I've checked that both cables are in and also swapped them.

I've checked the LNB power is switched to 'on' on each box from the 'hidden' menu 0611 + select at the advanced setup screen. Also each box's settings are the same as each other in terms of transponder settings etc.
