Since I got solar and moved to Powershop (mid may 14), after adding credits against what I have bought :
I have spent $24.41 on electricity and I have 14 weeks of power prepaid as of today. As of tomorrow, I should also have a credit balance of around $140 - $150.
I'll update the totals tomorrow as its account review day for Powershop.

On our local Central West News last night was the announcement that the ONE MILLIONTH Solar Panel was installed at Australia's largest Solar Panel 'farm' at Nyngan in the north west of the State.
I think they said it could generate sufficient power for some 30,000 homes but I didnt think you would find that many in a 100 km radius of Nyngan.
The question was asked why choose Nyngan and the reply that the area had a high exposure to Solar radiation was a bit weak if you cant utilise that power by sending it to consumers.
There is a very large mining facility at Cobar, 132km's to the west of Nyngan so maybe this power services them for their needs.

You are ! (presuming you dont have solar). Solar subsidies are paid for by those that dont have it with increased costs.
I do have to buy power, but its with money paid to me for exports. Basically what I export over the sunnier months pays for my winter use.
NSW residents should receive a drop in their price of power when assets are sold off and privatised. They also now have a decent pick of retailers with PowerShop now being available.

No usage rates or infrastructure rates appear to be available.

By the time it gets to Aus it will probably be nearer $5,000 which will buy the proverbial shed load of electricity at the normal rates.
Note also:

There will be somewhere between nil and zero chance that your electricity supplier will allow connection to the controlled load - read electric hot water - meter.

What do you mean?? They already do and have done for 40 years or more.
They allow Electricity to be stored as Heat in Heat Banks, taking advantage of the cheaper Off Peak power and saving them the cost of building a new generator.
Same with Slab Heating, Hot Water, etc, its all form of Off Peak Storage.
They used to be all for it, anything to help balance out the 24hr cycle.
Why would Batteries be any different?
If only these ideas (Solar and Batteries) worked for the householder when the Grid Power goes out, what a brilliant solution for the end user.
Why sell excess power back to the retailer for 4cents a Kw, when you can store it, and save yourself 30cents a Kw, and/or use the cheaper Off Peak tariff to top the batteries up for Peak times

Without looking in to what you have posted, are you 100% sure your figures are correct ? I am not saying they arent but I would recommend reading the thread over at the whirlpool.
While Powershop aren't guaranteed to be cheaper, comparisons that have been done on Whirlpool show that most of the time they are (I can only speak based on Vic, NSW has only just appeared. Several people at whirlpool have run comparisons).
Do those rates include Powershop's maximum 30% discount ? Powershop also sell their units of electricity that include everything, ie, my current price of 27.10 per units includes the supply charge.

Admin you got your solar in just before me. Can you give me a number for one years generation. I split my system (half facing east & half facing west) and I'm interested in how mine stacks up to a system facing north.
I havent been keeping much of a record, but can tell you what has been officially generated via my supplier, United Energy's "Energy easy" portal.

So over 12 months (aug - July) you generated 7770kW from an 8 kW system. Over a 12 month period (May - April) i generated 6852kW from a 5kW system split east/west. I am more than happy with that.
We've had a 3kw solar system on our house for 2 years, 6 months ago the grid was disconnected because I'd been charging a set of 700ah lifepo4 battery cells and using that overnight and when there was no sun. Aurora wasn't very happy and claimed we were breaching our contract with them, when I asked for them to provide a copy of the relevant clause, they couldn't. So they dropped our feed in tariff to .01cent and I disconnected them, we were sure we could go fully off grid with our system and now are self sufficient in energy, have a 350w wind generator as backup and a veggie oil powered genny for my workshop.
Now have lifepo4 in my bus, for starting engines, camera's etc and they are absolutely brilliant compared to lead acid storage. We've had a wet cloudy winter, yet our lifepo4 pack never got below 40% SOC, it's amazing how much energy you can save if you regulate it properly. I run the entire house on 240v through a 3000w-6000w pure sine wave inverter, using LED globes and even cook using induction cooking. In my bus we use a portable A/C when parked and it's really hot and heat hot water when the pack is full.
Why would you charge batteries in the peak period and use them in the off peak period?
In my experience, peak energy usage occurs in the evenings and mornings. Charging a lifepo4 pack during the day allows for using energy and charging so during peak times and cost, you have free energy and can put any extra into the grid during the day. It was an experiment to see if we could survive off grid and to get a return on our investment, when they got the shits with us not using any of their energy and made threats, we disconnected the grid.
Cant follow your logic. Charge at low cost & use at high cost periods is how I see it
