I'd be interested to hear from anyone whom has filled their North Facing Roof pitch with panels, if they notice the house stays a few degrees cooler?

As mounting a rack of panels is providing a first point for radiant heat and also offering a 50mm air gap to your existing colourbond or roofing material.

Definetly makes a difference at my place in Sydney it's noticeably cooler. Also another benefit it's quieter in heavy rain.

That's something that many owners would not think of doing...actually having a look prior ( take photo's) and after. It is a good reference sheet for all owners.

You really have to wonder how much longer the Essendon Football Club is prepared to turn a blind eye to the negative feedback about them as ultimately as their major sponsor, bad press will be associated with essendon and thats something they cant afford after the drug fiasco.

There are lots of similar negative posts about TVS, I wouldnt recommend people go near them regardless of price.

I'm almost loath to write this because everyone slags TVS so much and possibly with good reason (sometimes with only a statement from someone's best mate who lived seven estates away and got his info from the next door neighbours cat) but I've had a dream run with them.
From the day I signed up I had great communication, great paperwork, knowledgeable people at TVS advising.
Above all I had honesty, immediate honesty. What I mean by this is you can usually tell when people are stalling for time but when ever I rang them to ask questions or advise there was never a pause.
I asked very early in the piece about the manufacture of product and they were quick to point out where things were from, the warranty they carried on both manufacture and installation.
I admittedly bought on price. I bought the biggest I could get for my dollar (and my budget was very limited) and I also feel I will have probably raced a Lamborghini, on fire, speed and backwards, through the gates of heaven before the warranty expires anyway.
The unit was installed on time and too specification.
The electrician arrived in a sign written vehicle with ABN emblazoned along side his company name
The sparky filled out and left all the required documentation.
The independent (can't think of his title - like an auditor) signed off on the prescribed date and commented on the quality of the installation.
I've been up in the roof cavity and while I wouldn't have a clue what I'm supposed to be looking for I see nothing like the stress fractures shown above.
All in all I'm impressed with TVS, indeed I asked them about the very poor reputation that they have & have had and they argued that given the number of installations they do their disapproval rate is no worse, on a percentage basis, than anyone else.

The best part is, my bill, the one before last one was $640.00 (Yes, winter content I know) but my last bill (Oct through Jan) was $62.51
I've already had over a year without any problem whatsoever and I anticipate there will be none forthcoming either.

I'm a very happy camper but am cognisant that not everyone is, perhaps I showed a little more due diligence as I knew at the time exactly what I was letting myself in for.
There is no way that I expected a Champagne installation on my Beer budget but I do feel that while I maybe didn't get the Champagne I definitely did get a very good quality sparkling wine

    Cheers

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Its great that you got a good job and you are correct in that anyone with a large percentage of the market will have more call backs based purely on volume of work. But I couldnt recommend them because there are too many dodgy jobs and a lot of that is to do with their business model. They employ a sales company to do the selling and you have a room full of mainly foreigners on commission trying to earn a living. They know next to nothing about the products and tell people anything for a sale. From there it goes to sub contracted installers who could be anything from great to shit. Many, like Foxtel installers, try to stuff as many jobs in to a day by taking as many shortcuts as possible which results in what we saw in the link I posted. There are many similar stories on Whirlpool about similar damage and things falling off walls and roofs.

No doubt many will buy based purely on price, but if they do it they need to be very carefull and vigilant as to whats being done.

I personally never buy on price alone anymore, I have enough broken shit to spend my life chasing dodgy workmen.

I've got a 'small' system on my roof. 12 Panels (200w) with a 2.5kw inverter. I got it pretty cheap from a mate of mine that installs them. I am also locked into the 44c feed in tarrif. However I still use more than I produce (and don't care to change my ways much), so after weighing up the pros and cons I am going to load up my roof with more panels. I'm going to move the old inverter to the shed, and add 8 x 250w panels - and then add another 6 panels to the main roof and buy a larger inverter. I reckon it would be pretty hard to get caught, and even if I do, I am currently using more than I produce, so there's very little actually fef in.
Anybody else 'run the gauntlet' and added a few rogue panels ?

    Cheers.
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

Thanks for that, and yes you are probably right and in retrospect I think I may have figured out why I got the dream run.
When I first brought the system, I (my wife actually) ordered over the phone and yes she (the sales person) was slick (and I assume white due to no notable accent) but alarms went off in my head and I cancelled within the cool off period.
I never heard from them again but about three weeks later I rang the advertised number and after explaining that I was possibly interested once more I was transferred through a number of departments.
Because of the questions I asked at the time I feel I ended up at a 'genuine' TVS location and I was assured I had a 'personal' point of contact.
I was given a (Telstra) mobile number and every time after that I got the same person, so perhaps I inadvertently found a way to circumvent the 'Call centre'
On the money side I was virtually forced to financial decision I made at this point, it was right on the cusp of the FIT dropping to 19c from 30c, I didn't have enough cash saved and felt to get the system I wanted I really would have to wait a few more months, TVS pricing gave me a viable financial alternative.

You will have to add up whether its worth you risking your 44 cent tariff for whatever standard is (not sure on your state, I will presume 8 cents). Yes, people do lose it reguarly according to the complaints on whirlpool.

You could probably safely run 3kw of panels on your current invertor, would that help ?

Yeah, its a hard one with tariffs. Although I am only going to be on 8 cents, the cost of systems has spiralled down. I would have been aiming for a zero bill with the decent FIT and although the tariff has dropped, I am paying a lot less for a much bigger system. I should still end up with a zero bill added up annually so it may just end up the same.

    Time will tell

When reading the posts here often wondered why people, if they can, don't put some panels facing west to get advantage of late after noon sun, Googled and saw this

I gather they would be on a different orientation?

My install is happening next Wed and Thu. They stated as its a fairly big job (2 x 4.4 kw inverters and 32 panels) they have booked 2 full days for the install.

After another roof drama this week, I am glad I have gone on quality more than price.

I had my split system moved from one room to another this week. I watched the electrician and his offsider while they did the job. All good, paid them and they left. Went out an hour later and noticed a hole in my roof. Funny thing was that it wasnt on the side that they were on, they werent anywhere near it.

Where the back face of the roof meets the side face, the bottom of the pitched capping separated and slide down the roof in to the gutter exposing a big hole. After having a look at it, it is dodgy from the original roof install , poor installation has seen the mortar holding it together for 7 years. Vibration from the workman caused it to finally let go.

Yet another shit job from Metricon Homes, all they build is time bombs in my opinion.

It depends on what options you have available. Mine is actually North West so I am pretty lucky really (I think). Time will tell

Ive read most of this post and many others. I too am looking at installation of solar in geelong.
Has anyone looked at a slightly smaller solar system or bigger inverter and get a wind system (if your in the right area)? as this would continue to work during the night.
Im not talking about the massive ones. More vertical wind turbines type.
