If it works, you can get a replacement screen fitted for around $150 or so

..it's the bits hanging out that may be a problem...It may work but not get wifi or the camera is kaput. Any of these things make it a gamble.....you may just end up with a $250 iphone 5 that is perfect .....or a door wedge.

From memory, Apple will replace it for around $350...not worth it for you as it will end up costing $450 but maybe OK for her.

if its a 64gb and $350 to replace, then that's a good deal

Sometimes what something is worth depends on a lot of different factors. If I have a specific phone for a while and really liked it, sometimes I will spend a little extra money on it just to get it fixed. If it's just a random phone that I could care less if I had it either way then I probably wouldn't put any money into fixing it. As far as the dollar value of your specific phone, I think it would cost you more money to fix it than it would if you just bought a brand new one. If it really doesn't mean anything to you my advice would be to just get a new one.

If you have AppleCare, you can try that. They replace it for like 49$ or something ridiculously less.

My dad and I have been trolling ebay for awhile for iPhones just out of curiosity and generally you can get one in decent shape for a little over $200. If you're lucky and you catch it at the right time when no one else is bidding, you can sometimes get one for as low as $180. However, if you find one with a busted up screen that still works, you actually can replace the screen yourself for much cheaper than $350 if you're willing to do a bit of research and work at it. I haven't done it myself but my brother has been looking into it for a while and half the battle is apparently ordering a specialized screwdriver. Hope you find an option that works out for you. Cheers!

$100 is a bargain if...... the owner hasn't reported it lost or stolen, and they are happy to remove it from their devices on icloud.

sometimes the lcd wont work due to the smashed damage, easiest thing to do is see if itunes sees it, and the vibration motor works
if you can pull it apart there are 3 water indicators that you can check

the tools come with it - and there are heaps of tutes on youtube

I have done heaps and it isn't too hard

if you don't want it phil, I'll have it
