Default DAS DL 250 series alarm making phone calls

Hi all just wanted to know if anyone can help me solve an issue I have with my DAS Dl 250 home alarm system.

It has been working fine but I noticed on my home phone bill that it makes a call everyday to some strange number. it must be to do with the monitoring side of the alarm.

is there a way to reset this or to turn this feature off?

I unplugged the phone line to the alarm box itself but that resulted in false alarms.

    can anybody offer any advice?

    thanks in advance.

    Nik

Unfortunately not. The system has obviously been configured for monitoring at some point in its life along with having telephone line monitoring activated hence the alarm activations. It will require a technician to attend who either has the installer code, a DL programmer (provided local programming lockout isn't enabled), or a replacement EPROM.

The DL250s were a fantastic panel in their day but a little past their used by date given they stopped making them in 97. It may be time to consider upgrading baring in mind that you may not find someone with the knowledge or equipment in your local area that can assist.

Try dialing without the 08. Are you being billed for calls?

    You're confusing matters.

Nkats, 1345 numbers are typically 'Securidial' virtual numbers which divert to a landing-point at a monitoring centre's receiver. The number is being answered by an alarm receiver (the 'boop beep').

Bureaus don't have receivers. Monitoring centres do. 'Bureaus' (a uniquely Australian security term as far as I am aware) are simply installers who sub-contract/outsource their monitoring to a monitoring centre.

Evidently that alarm panel was monitored at some stage. When the monitoring was cancelled the alarm should have been de-programmed. This did not happen either due to a sloppy security company or a recalcitrant homeowner. You are now paying for that, literally.

    Thanks for that.

So does that mean I need to find out who the monitoring company was and get them to De activate that side of things?

It's funny because it only started doing it 3 months after I connected the phone line and a different number to what the previous home owner had.

Default Same problem. What about swapping to a disused 2nd line?

I also have the very same very old home alarm system, a DAS DL250. We cancelled the monitoring service years ago as it was expensive and useless. But the system still phones a number (1300653219) 5 to 10 times/month to check the line. At random times. The calls last 5 seconds and cost us 35 cents each and as far as I can tell have no current purpose. I was too stingy to pay $100 for a techie to stop the phoning out, about which I now have mild regrets. I could disconnect the phone line, and setting off the alarm once is OK. I can enter the arm-disarm code. But setting off the alarm at all future call times is not on. The previous posts indicate that disconnection is a bad idea.

What about this? Many years ago we had a second landline installed that we used for faxes and outgoing calls, and in due course that line was cancelled, but the wires and sockets are still there, with no dial tone. Could I swap the security system over to the dead landline?

    I'm in Daglish, WA.

The problem with using the second line is that it's disconnected. The panel is looking for a line voltage indicating the presence of a connected phone line. Without this, there is the potential for continued faults. If you wish to keep using the system, you will require someone with experience (and experience comes with a price) with these older systems to resolve the issue for you. As I've said before, they're a rock solid little panel but long past their used by date.

Welcome to the Security Industry Rebate Scam.

NKats & rusrtyruggles - do either of you use VoIP? If so, I may be able help you avoid the call costs if you haven't already found a solution.

With all due respect, IPAlarms, Rustyruggles himself cancelled the service. He didn't move into the house. He says the monitoring was "useless" so it might have been some fly-by-night operator that didn't give him the facts, but any reasonable operation should suggest or insist that the customer make arrangements for deprogramming the system.

I know our paperwork insists on this for customers exiting.
