Free, cheap or expensive?
I've been using Windows Movie Maker since I was in college. I love making short movies out of scratch and movie maker gave me a lot of tools to do that. However, as Windows advanced through the years, Movie Maker declined in functionality (IMO). Now, I need an alternative to Windows Movie Maker. I need an editing tool that is user friendly but still has a lot of editing tools available to be used. Any ideas?

Pinnacle VideoSpin (Freeware)
VideoSpin is similar to Windows Movie Maker. Thus, you can put together videos, photos, music and text to a new video, use effects, cut videos. VideoSpin supports more video formats and effects as a Movie Maker.
Depends how serious you are about video production and the desired results.
Adobe Premiere Pro with After Effects is what I use.
Just curious. Do you have something against windows movie maker or because it doesn't do the job right anymore? Well, honestly, it doesn't really matter since there are many free video editing tools that you can use to edit for commercial purposes. You could try out these two:
VSDC Free Video EditorVirtual DubVSDC Free Video Editor looks and feels just like a professional video editor – it’s hard to distinguish it from most PRO softwares. . .its only true disadvantage – it has a steep learning curve.. . .an open-source software. . .probably has the simplest user interface.
