Default Windows 8 Movie Maker vs Movie Maker 2.6

When I was still in college (before I dropped out), I loved tinkering with Movie Maker 2.6 for Windows XP. I was able to edit photos and videos to my hearts content. I felt like a real producer/director. There were a lot of options and features to tinker with. The only downside is that it supports a limited number of video formats.

Now, I recently tried out the Movie Maker installed in my Windows 8 PC. I tried to import a lot of videos in different file formats and was pleased to find out that it could support them all. But when I started to edit and create my movie, I was like "meh".

What happened Microsoft? Why did Movie Maker become crap?

Already have asked Microsoft this question?

    EDIT:

A "Windows 8 Movie Maker" program does NOT exist. The current version of the Windows Movie Maker program is dating back to the year 2012 and running in Windows 7 as a revised version of "Windows Live Movie Maker". The video editing integrated with older versions than Windows Movie Maker 2012 is no longer standard and must be downloaded separatly.

» Use Linux for your video production on a Windows PC!

Most Linux based video editing software can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. Instead of paying hundreds dollars for a video editing software running under Windows OS, it's far more cheap to download and to install a Linux distro which contains many multimedia applications for audio and/or video production (ex. Ubuntu Studio Live-CD) in a VM and run this specific Linux distro, as I do it.

BTW: Ubuntu Studio is available for 32- / 64-bit CPUs (Windows OS as host)
