I suggest you check the CPU compatability for your particular motherboard. The manufacturer's site should have this info. New boards would support both, but older boards may not support the newer CPUs.
Hi all,
Firstly I'd like to say it seems like a stupid question, and I am sure I can do it, I just want verification. I currently have a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Single Core CPU Socket 939. Now I have acquired a AMD Athlon X2 Socket 939 4800+ Dual core CPU, minus heatsink and fan. My question is wether or not this will connect straight up? I am sure it would be a straight swap. I haven't taken the heatsink and fan off my existing yet because I dont want to touch it if I don't need to, so i can't compare the two. If this can be done I was just wondering if there is anything else I need to do, and if there will be much difference in performance. My motherboard is a Foxconn NF4K8AC-RS. Cheers.

Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core 4800+(2.4G)
Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core 3800+(2.0G)
.4 difference .. personally I wouldn't bother ... just O/C it and when dies replace with 4800+

The effective processor speed is up 20% with the 4800+, but you certainly won't see an actual data throughput speed increase of 20% - an increase in FSB speed gives greater apparent processing lift.
'Bragging rights' would be the main increase !
