Correct. Too many installers are continuing to use phoneline based monitoring despite the fact this will at some stage stop working as the NBN spreads its tentacles. In any case, phoneline monitoring has always been trivially defeated with a pair of scissors, by cutting the phoneline.
Incorrect. It doesn't make sense to pay $20 per month to keep a line active on NBN which is basically a VoIP service at the end of the day.
What you're talking about is the 'UNI-V' port which is a way of getting the NBN box to emulate a traditional phoneline. It's a nod to legacy devices like fax machines. However that service will not necessarily work with your alarm anyway and you will still get stung call charges.
What you need is a pure IP-based monitoring system which connects to your Internet (e.g. ADSL or the UNI-D data port of the NBN) and/or the GPRS mobile network. Much more robust than phoneline and can avoid the need to even have one.
