Can't say that I've heard these expressions before, but the practice is all too prevalent.
Certainly used by IT and service providers.
I welcome the ACCC and FTC, long overdue.

i was ripped off last weekend , flew to gold coast , booked a hire car online , found the cheapest mob , went through the websites ( excess insurance ) policy , and when i get there i could have got it cheaper direct through the car company itself.
to make it worse , the hire company said they dont accept the website's insurance and wanted to upsell me to their own ( excess insurance ) policy. thieving lying bastards.
live and learn i guess
Did the online insurance name the hire car company you used as a business recognising the Insurance Policy or use that cop out phase 'Participating Companies only'?
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
i'm still waiting for a response from them Gordon. at the check in desk i did a quick check of the online policy and decided it must have been ok. scary though.
