Default WTD: small aluminium metal fabrication please??!??

    G'day!

Is anyone here able to fabricate 2 smallish brackets for me from 1mm or so aluminium?? (thickness is not critical….)

I can send a template with proper scale measurements for the bracket, but don't have the right tooling to make a nice clean bend or cut

I've attached a few pics to show what I'm after…it's basically just a bracket to take a standard width 5.25" sized computer device and has a mount for a 120mm fan for cooling above.

If you can help out, please PM me with details and a rough idea of price…

I've got a few other projects in mind for later if you want some other work too )

Looking to get these made ASAP so I can put my RAID units back together and get them off the table :P

I'm in Melbourne, so local is good, but I'm happy to post also….

    CHEERS!!!

Ok, Knight I cannot do them for you but you can get Mckinna sheetmetal in Braeside to fabricate them, be warned won't be cheap. Any problems or distance issues i can organise as i am in and out of there once a week

    Thanks for the info allover...

how cheap is "not cheap" ?

    I'm guessing around $20 - $25 each ???

I could be way off as I've never had anything done like this before…

I'm probably looking at getting these done "on the side" by someone who can knock them up as opposed to having them done professionally, as it is only 2 brackets.

4 folds numerous cuts would be around the $100 mark to get made up as
    a one off item.

as beer4life pointed out buy yourself a bending break and a good pair of
    left ( red ) - right ( green ) - straight ( yellow ) duckbill weiss snips
not the cheap arse crap craftsman etc the duckbill will be easier to get the cut outs done neatly.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

Do you really need the brackets to cover the bottom of the device?
Have you considered getting some aluminium angle and screwing one side to the device and cutting out the other side to take the fan?
It would also allow for better cooling of the device.
The fan mounts you have shown could be cut easily with a hacksaw and cleaned up to a perfect finish with a file.

    Hi!

Yep - it needs to be around the bottom, as the base of the case has a lip and the device needs to be raised, and screwed to the base also.

its not the cost of materials, its the time to set up the machinery for your job.
if you wanted 100 of them, the price per unit would be much better...

yep that's. it , on something like that as a one off it would be cut with a cnc
machine to get it all neat otherwise the tight corners would have to be cut by
hand with a pair of snips.

Knight, it does not have to be aluminum, 26# zinc/alum will be fine. Ring Harris Plumbing Plus (Eltham) 9439 5600, ask who folds their flashings in the local area, i am sure it will be close, approach them for a price. Another option may be for you to get them to fold it as a box, purchase or borrow a pair of green and red tin snips (one is left hand and the other right hand) mark out the tops and cut as per your template, easy squizzy, make sure you take your template with you
ps they will have off cuts of zinc/alum on site

If you look at a old Desktop Computer and the DVD Drive Bays I am sure you could do something there
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

Thanks again everyone for your help

Ivem organised some aluminium offcuts, and I'm having them cut with a guillotine to the right size, then using a combo of hand nibbler and hacksaw to get the shape I'm after….It's only 1mm ally

This needs to be done on a tightarse budget :P

    Thanks again!!!!!

    CHEERS! Knight.

    Did you make these Knight?

If not, we could laser cut and form the two of them for $60 +GST in total, in 1.2mm Zincseal (or Gal sheet). Located in Carrum Downs.

Sorry to hog the thread...what's the thickest aluminium plate you can laser cut BlackKnight?
If a man says something in a forest and there is no woman there to hear it, will that which has been said still be wrong?
