    Default Al Jazeera

    Hi All,

Just wondering if Al Jazeera is still free via satellite C1 I think? If so I have a DM 500s gathering dust, using an old PLI skin can I scan using that to get that channel?

(The missus has taken a liking to their news service and the dish is sitting on the roof growing old without use...lol)

    Cheers

Yes, if i remember, there was a trick with the E1 machines...
It wouldn't scan it, but you could load it.

That may have changed with the new Sat though.

On a humax you had to enter the VID's and PID's manually as they were not the normal ones the Humax scanned so you may have to do that on your set top box.

The story was that this was done as Optus couldnt refuse to carry the signal but required this minor difference to stop the auto scan of a receiver from finding it.
It sounds ridiculous as Optus is in business to make money by proving a 'platform' for others to broadcast from but then, why this variation from the 'standard' search patterns of a receiver?
I wonder if though this was to block anyone with an older Austar/Foxtel stb that could be tuned to a frequency but not the Vid/Pid sequence which was preset.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
