I just need recovery, no, I haven't used newsgroups or anything else for years.
Copy is legit bought online through a promotion, but didn't make a backup. Computer boot ####ed up after power disconnect.

While waiting for a recovery disk you do:
Power on laptop and within 1 second hit [F2] to enter the UEFI/BIOS. When options dialog is shown, then navigate (forward and backward, that's important) through all the submenus and scroll up and down within. This makes system think it gets re-configured. DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS, but simply exit. After a second or so the "Automatic System Repair" should start: might take up to an hour...
id go system restore off any bootable win 8 or win 8.1 disk
that startup repair never works lol

Worked for me at least 3 times: different Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers. But if you know it better ...
A Windows 8 PE (rescue disk) is enough, no need to have a full Windows 8/8.1 disk. Several tools available with which you can create such a "lite" Windows PE. You create such a Windows 8 PE in less than 5 minutes. I use MistyPE for those tasks. For example a Windows 8.1 PE has only 218,822 KB.

I in no way, have any where near the vast knowledge that the Austech PC guru duo do, but I'll try to help.
It sounds like you are after the recovery disks, as in a system image either supplied by the manufacturer, or made by you when you follow the instructions when you first boot the system, if that's the case, unless it's sitting on a separate partition on the HDD, you're pretty well shit out of luck, unless you can find someone that has the exact same model laptop that is willing to send you a copy of the disk/image.
You just need to download the ISO, I can send you a copy of Win 8 Pro x64 if you don't want to download the DVD.
Edit: that link was the wrong one, I'll try and find the correct one again.
Edit 2: that one should sort it out.

Another method I completely forgot to mention would be:
If you need to intercept the boot process to repair Windows 8 then press [F8] soon after you press the power button, here are options to help with a repair:
1. Refresh your PC - Reload Windows 8 keep your personal documents and photos
2. Reset your PC - Return to original configuration
3. Advanced options - System Restore, System Image Recovery, Automatic Repair or Command Prompt
My technique is to keep the [F8] key depressed, then let it up for 5 seconds, down, up for 5 seconds until I saw the boot loader screen.
None of the above worked and none of the Windows 8 recoveries I found and downloaded worked either.
In the end I bought and downloaded a program called Windows RE for $20. It was guaranteed to work and I payed with Paypal so I wasnt stressed about losing out.
I burnt it to disc, started my laptop and it ran a cut down version of Linux from the disc with a custom windows recovery menu with a few different options. Repair failed, which had me sweating but it also had system restore and I found a recent restore point which it restored no problem.
