i set my one up using this bypass because in the us model it gives you the no cc option
Background: A neighbour contacted me recently and said that she wanted to buy an iPad mini for reading eBooks.
I said that a $50 to $80 eBook reader from Aldi would be a better alternative but she is the type of person who, once her mind is made up, cannot be swayed by reason.
So, today she contacts me saying she has bought one and could I help her set it up.
This was my first encounter with any portable device and I have to say that Apple seem to have gone out of their way to make it difficult.
Having thick fingers makes it even harder.
Long story short, it seems that to do anything on the damn thing you have to go through iTunes or the Apple App store and they require a credit card to register.
She is reluctant to do this as she is afraid of being ripped off so I spent some time searching the web for an alternative without much success.
Does anyone know of a free way to bypass Apple or is the alternative to take out a separate credit card with a minimum amount and register with that?

if you hate itunes like many others, download iFunbox
it's much more user friendly
Being totally restricted with the need of using Apple's software to transfer anything is the reason why I simply don't use their products.
On any MP3 player or reader it is a simple copy and paste action, with Apple you need a degree in Apple sience...
On top of that it is next to impossible to get your user data removed once you decided to get rid of their products.
So you have no idea what data they really keep and for how long.
The only way I know to get them working the waythey should is by using a hammer oder hydrochloric acid....

I am in the unfortunate position of having a piece of fruit for a phone and am, of course, beholden to iTunes to keep my device up to date. I have yet to find a decent 3rd party app to synchronise Outlook with my phone so am stuck with iTunes. For all that, at no time have I had to submit a credit card to Apple to access the store. The only time that is needed is if you choose to purchase something and, in some cases, they just bill your phone account. If they are not into buying stuff, which it sounds like, all you need is a valid email address.
I use calibre for ebooks to my wife's ipad mini. I hate iTunes.
It has a small learning curve but once done it is simple. Remember though this is just for books. I still use crapple shit tunes for xferring music etc.
