did you try swapping the ram module, to see if both are working, maybe the new 2 gig you are adding is no good.
hi, I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G mobo, P4 3ghz, Vista and 4GB of Zepplin DDR400 ram...the system runs fine on 2GB ram but as soon as I install 4 gb of ram it boots but once booted..after about 1 min it blue screens and reboots...anyone got any ideas??
I was thinking it is requiring a bios update but I dont have a floppy drive so cant use qflash..I tried the chipset update but no luck..it still reboots when I install 4gb of ram.
Please help....
Cheers

I beleive unless your using vista 64bit it will only use 2 gig of ram i know thats true with xp maybe someone can shed some light on wether the same applies to vista.
xp uses up 3.25gig of ram mate but depending on motherboard only 3 gig will show.
it shows 3.4gb ram..thats not the issue...the problem is..as soon as I install 4gb ram it reboots.
I have swapped modules and they all work...
My mobo says it supports up to 4gb of ram

hey Homer please write the code you are getting on the BSOD, and if it's this code "STOP 0x0000000A"
you might need to download an update that might solve your problem, please try it and see how you go champ.
the update is KB929777
update on 2 gig then instal all 4gigs.
if you are using vista 64 bit
HS
some boards wont run certain ram in certain combos
if the board is not booting it is NOT a software issue, no amount of updates (not including bios) will fix the issues.
Post up your mobo model, then look on the specs to see if the ram modules you are using are supported.
Hi, thanks guys..urban: yeah I posted the model; Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G
Yeah it boots fine, I get to my desktop, it loads windows fine, but about 1 to 3 mins after it is loaded up it blue screen and reboots.
So i think it may be a software issue...ill try the update.
oh and it is a 32bit Vista

Not ANOTHER Vista issue is it?
umm yeah..im pretty sure i said it was vista...
OK did the update, loaded the ram in and it booted, no blue screen....however...nearly everything that started with windows closed down...I tried opening outlook, it closed down...
So I rebooted and when it loaded back up it blue screened...but it looked like a different error this time...some screenshots below
This is loaded after update;
Then this is the blue screen once I had to reboot:

How many RAM sticks do you have? How have you installed them?
If you have 2 then: slots 1 and 3 (or 2 & 4) for dual channel operation or slots 1 & 2 (or 3 & 4)for no dual channel operation. Try all configs.
If you have 4 try 3 only.
Has you set your bios to fail safe config?
It's a ram issue.
Try using all the same brand, capacities and speed.
failing that...try safe settings in cmos...or get a new motherboard.
yeah ALL sticks are same brand and same speed...exactly the same.
Im running 4 sticks, tried 3 with no luck.
ill try to load fail safe config and see.
I dont really want to buy a new mobo...ssurely there s a way to fix.

Although most boards have 4 slots a lot of them don't like running 4 sticks of ram.
Try running memtest on it to make sure all the ram is ok. It will see all 4 gig so you can leave it all in to test.
XP and Vista 32-bit will see 4Gb of ram, but first it subtracts all other system memory, ie; video card, network, sound, etc. Windows then gets whats left.
Hey homer how do you feel about reinstalling your Windows vista mate, that could be a fix to your problem.
nah..I just did that like 3 weeks ago...
I was running 4 sticks in it before (4x 512 Kingston) and it ran fine.

do you have sp1 on it?
I downloaded it last night..ill install it and see how it goes.

ok did memtest on all sticks of ram, no problems found...
So i am putting it down to software or a hardware conflict....
Maybe i need to update the bios??
