Default UEC DSD 4121 remote range

I have a UEC DSD 4121 box. The remote has a range of less than three metres. The remote and box are both clean with nothing in between to block the signal. There is no sun glare or anything other than the TV that might cause interference and the remote batteries are new, with several sets being tried. Is this the best that I can expect from this rather disappointing device?

I would expect a better distance range.

Has it been like this since new?

    How old is it?

Which type of remote... standard or PVR?

It is a standard remote. It is around one year old but has only been in use for about six weeks.

If you know someone with the same remote, you could test with, that would be great, but I'm guessing you would have already done that if possible.

The standard remotes will work with any 4121 box.

Try contacting UEC and explaining the issue.

They have been quite helpful to several people in the past.

No, you should get better than that, my 4121 has a remote range of 7 metres that I can measure, would have to go outside to get more.
That is with both the PVR remote & the original remote I just dug out of my cupboard with the original batteries from purchase in Dec2010 still in it.
    Cheers, Tiny

It's a common problem with the early 4121's replace the face PCB and that's how it's done. Check to see if there might be a warranty claim first. Email UEC as I have been lucky on a few occasions.
FWIW the remote is most likely ok it is the receive module.

    Regards,

I borrowed a remote from across the road and it had the same range so it is the receiver. I have emailed UEC, it could go either way. The box is a year old but the card has only been active for a few weeks. I won't hold my breath.

I recently returned a 14 month old STB to UEC as I thought it had a power supply problem (which it didnt) and they were prepared to repair it under warranty which surprised me.
After checking it and couldnt find a problem (according to the report they replaced some components) they returned the STB to me at no charge.
They actually rang to tell me of their testing.

I just tried my R/C with at least 14 month old batteries in it on a now 2 year old DSD 4121 and from 5 + metres (15 feet) it responded to the Up/Down channel button with no problem.

I am going to ask a possibly stupid question but is the DSD4121 behind a glass door of a TV cabinet or whatever?
I ask as I had another devise that acted erratically when I had it behind a glass door of an old cabinet.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

It is not behind a door and there are no obstructions between the remote and the box. I haven't heard back from UEC yet so the verdict is still out.

    Sad.
