Default Ipod Classic 120gb Hard Drive issues!!

    Hi There,

I recenlty bought a Ipod Classic from Ebay which was supposedly 'perfect working condition' but found it has many issues!
I'm still tryingto go through Paypal to resolve this but it is becoming problematic as the seller isnt exactly coorporative!

So what happens is whilst trying to sync songs to the ipod, after a few hundred songs itunes fails with a connection error. I've tried another ipod exactly the same model and this works fine.

Ive tried restoring it multiple times as well as formatting it.

I'm guessing there is an issue with bad clusters on the ipod Hard drive? I've run the apple diagnostic tool and it says it has roughly 2500 reallocations.

My guess is that the hard drive has a number of bad clusters so I was thinking of trying to run some software to isoloate teh bad clusters. Any suggestions?
Looking for somethign Free!! Ive tried HDD Rejevunator which is great but its not free and will only fix one bad cluster unless you purchase it!

    any advice appreciated!

    cheers

    Hey metallima

the hard drive is stuffed, I have 3 or 4 stuffed Classics with knackered hard drives. Unfortunately I haven't bothered even playing with them and told the owners to look at a solid state device (newer Ipod) and would suggest the same and it will only get worse until it eventually fails completely.

Don't waste any more money on it

Thanks.. I guessed this was the case
I'm just trying to work out a way to get some use out of it given i've been stung with it. Id be happy even if i got a bit out of it and at the moment cant afford replacing it.
The seller was very smart - first failed to send it to me requiring me to raise a dispute...then once i received it i closed the dispute. Now that it ends up being faulty Paypal won't let me raise another dispute.

    Any more advice appreciated.

Buy one that has a dead battery or stuffed iPod cable connection pins & change the drives over, it's not hard once you know how to pull them apart.
Or buy a new drive for it & install as per
To open you will need this as well, .

I've done this & it's not easy, not hard either, you just need to be a bit of an explorer.
    Cheers, Tiny

Alternatively you could stray to the dark side and download a hacked version of HDD recovery programs
Couldn't find HDD Rejuvenator but there are others >
    and
of course you do stand the chance that Santa won't visit you this year
