Default Track changes in Windows 7/8.x -> Windows System State Analyzer

When you install an application on a Windows 7/8.x computer, it performs in most cases many changes to system files, directories, and the registry. Microsoft offers the free-of-charge "Windows System State Analyzer (WSSA)", which allows you very easily understand these changes

WSSA is part of the Software Certification Toolkit, you download from here

    64-bit :
    32-bit:

Note, you must not install the complete toolkit. If you run downloaded installer "Software_Certification_Toolkit_x**.msi" - where ** stands for either 86 or 64 - you only enable the WSSA.

    How To:

Once the WSSA is installed on your computer, before you install an application, first of all create a snapshot before any system change occurs.

    Start WSSA.

    Select the Snapshot tab.

Click on the left side the option create new.

Set the path where in Windows you want to save the snapshot.

    Click Start.

    WSSA creates a snapshot now.

    Leave the WSSA open!!!

Then, you install the application, whose changes you want to monitor.

When you have installed the application,

Click on the right side on the option create new.

    Set the path again.

    Click Start.

    WSSA again creates a snapshot.

The next step is to compare the snapshots.

To do this, switch comparison either to the Quick tab or click the compare button. Once you have clicked the compare button, WSSA begins with the analysis of the two snapshots and then very detailed displays the changes. In the new window, the tool shows the changes structured for file system, registry, services, and drivers.
