Default Garage door remote on different frequency

I have an automatic garage door that operates on 433.22 MHz and am looking at getting some new remotes. There are more remote options available in the 433.92 MHz frequency range, but could anybody advise if the different frequency would work, possibly just with a reduced range?

No doubt sounds like a stupid question, however back in the day I had a system that operated around the 33MHz range, and as long as your remote was within about 1MHz of the receiver frequency it would work. I don't know if it is the same with these newer UHF systems.

From my understanding...I am not a door specialist...you pretty much should stick to a remote specifically designed for your door. Some even have rolling codes which need a specific receiver and transmitter. I have tried to code a gate to my 4 button garage door remote...Same frequency..433.92MHz but no go.

While the frequency of operation may be the same the encryption will no doubt be different. You can do it by using a transmitter/receiver set & wiring the receiver to the manual contacts on the door controller.

Thanks folks. I just grab one or 2 additional ones at the current frequency to save any hassles. If I needed any more remote it would be cheaper the buy a new receiver with a number of remotes at the different frequency.

Default Garage door remote on different frequency

What I've done in the past, go to find the remote I'm looking for and the part number it's commonly referred to as, go to eBay and search for the part number, buy the generic replacement for $15 delivered

Yep, i bought 4 x ATA PTX4 in stainless steel for $11ea on eBay free delivery.
Just programmed 2 of them up yesterday, had a longer range than the blue ATA PXT4 units they replaced.

They are heaps stronger than the blue ATA units, you can have them on your car keys, they are small and solid.
The blue units just break, battery cover falls off, cant have them on your keys.

I found the range was slightly further than the blue units.
Also for a bit of fun, i used AUX contacts on the roller door motor's to control the driveway lights with button 3 and 4
    (far too much spare time).

Just Good Deals also has a direct website to save on eBay fees and its a little cheaper.
