    Default Wii and the internet.

    Hi all,

I have been saving for quite a while and have got my daughter a Wii for her birthday. Anyway my main question is do you have to connect your Wii up to the internet for upgrades or can you simply just use it without the updates. By this I mean since it was purchased several months ago perhaps Nintendo have released an update, if this is the case should I update the firmware?

    Thanks in advance.

You didn't mention if it was chipped so I'll just assume it is. You'll only really need to upgrade if a particular game requires it and if it does it'll tell you. The upgrade will be on the disc however it's usually best to update it via the net because then you know you are upgrading with the correct version. ie Pal if its a Pal console. However, if you know it's definately a Pal game going into a Pal console then doing the update from the disc is fine.

    Hi Smithster,

I forgot to mention that it was not chipped but thats for the info.

    Hi Shagga,

Yes I had already read that thread, but I was asking more along the lines of your PC for example. When running windows you receive updates from Microsoft so you download and update. I was wondering if Nintendo do something similiar, or do they just release an updated firmware once every blue moon?

Yeah at a guess, I would say an update every 3 to 4 months might be close. I have mine completely up to date at the moment 3.3.
I dont have it set to do auto updates, but I do check when I think of it, or when I read things on the net about the update.

    Cheers

Thanks heaps Shagga, thats exactly what I wanted to know.

Okay by some miracle was able to get it connected via wireless and it updated took about 5 mins. Easier than I thought.

    Thanks again.
