Need help re-establising house that had a "whole house" audio system
Need some advice.
Friends have just bought a house.
Looks like the previous owner took the old system by cutting cables, etc.
5 rooms have speakers in them, with a volume control on each wall.
I've found where the speaker cables start (probably where the amp used to be).
They want to be able to play music into each room, and control via the volume switch.
Can I just run a amp and a 5-way splitter to the speakers? Will that work with the volume controls?
Is there a better way that we could utilize the speakers in each room now, but now use a iPod to control from anywhere in the house?
Thanks

You need an impedance matching switch if your going to do it that way if you don't you will load up the amp as more speakers come on or off and blow it up. Do some research something that seems so simple never is
You can use a speaker switching unit.
If you want to control an audio system via an iphone/ipad etc, you'll need an audio automation system.
Several types available.

As others have said, there's likely to be more to it. If the volume control plates are still in place, I'd take them off and have a look behind them. You may find they have small built in amps which require line level input from the AV receiver or amp rather than high level.
